Outcomes of Chengdu Pediatric Emergency Triage Criteria: A Retrospective Study of 198,628 Pediatric Patient Records
CONCLUSIONS The Chengdu pediatric emergency triage criteria developed and applied within our hospital appears to be characterized by good clinical validity. Equipped with this triage criteria, triage nurses are more capable of determining the severity and emergency of the pediatric ED patients' health conditions and effectively triaging the patients.PMID:38571286 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942814 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Advances in Treating Cesarean Scar Pregnancy: A Comprehensive Review of Techniques, Clinical Outcomes, and Fertility Preservation
Med Sci Monit. 2024 Apr 3;30:e943550. doi: 10.12659/MSM.943550.ABSTRACTCesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is a rare but potentially dangerous condition that occurs when an embryo implants and develops within the scar tissue from a previous cesarean section. Treatment of cesarean scar pregnancy depends on several factors, including the gestational age of the pregnancy, the presence of complications, and the individual patient's circumstances. We performed a systematic review of the published literature on management of cesarean scar pregnancy and the outcomes, complications, and effects on fertility. A systematic review of recen...

Predictive Value of Combined HbA1c and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy in Type 2 Diabetes
CONCLUSIONS HbA1c and NLR emerge as noteworthy risk indicators associated with the manifestation of DPN in patients with type 2 diabetes. The combined detection of HbA1c and NLR exhibits a heightened predictive value for the development of DPN.PMID:38561932 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942509 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Editorial: Forty Years of Waiting for Prevention and Cure of HIV Infection - Ongoing Challenges and Hopes for Vaccine Development and Overcoming Antiretroviral Drug Resistance
Med Sci Monit. 2024 Apr 1;30:e944600. doi: 10.12659/MSM.944600.ABSTRACTIn April 1984, 40 years ago, the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services announced that Dr. Robert Gallo and his colleagues at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) had confirmed the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) as a retrovirus, which became known as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 1986. For the past 40 years, prevention and cure of HIV infection have been the dual 'holy grail' sought but still not achieved. By the beginning of 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that in the past 40 years, be...

Differentiation of Native Vertebral Osteomyelitis: A Comprehensive Review of Imaging Techniques and Future Applications
Med Sci Monit. 2024 Mar 31;30:e943168. doi: 10.12659/MSM.943168.ABSTRACTNative vertebral osteomyelitis, also termed spondylodiscitis, is an antibiotic-resistant disease that requires long-term treatment. Without proper treatment, NVO can lead to severe nerve damage or even death. Therefore, it is important to accurately diagnose the cause of NVO, especially in spontaneous cases. Infectious NVO is characterized by the involvement of 2 adjacent vertebrae and intervertebral discs, and common infectious agents include Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Brucella abortus, and fungi. Clinical symptoms are generall...
