Why Do People Fear of Aging? A Theoretical Framework
AbstractFear of aging can be experienced by people of all age groups and negatively affects health and well-being. Fear of aging has been defined as irrational and persistent fear of getting older. It negatively affects health of younger and older adults. This paper aimed to propose a theoretical framework that explains causes of fear of aging. The authors reviewed and critiqued existing theories related to fear of aging. Then a new theoretical framework was developed using a deductive approach. Based on the gerontological literature, it was found that fear of aging is a multifactorial phenomenon and rooted from several ps...

State of Autonomic Regulation of Heart Rhythm in Young and Old Rats before and after the Application of Different Regimens of Rhythmic Extreme Cooling
AbstractThe influence of various regimens of rhythmic, extreme cold effects on the state of autonomic regulation of the heart rate was studied in young and old rats. Spectral analysis of heart-rate variability found that the use of rhythmic extreme cold exposures (RECE) with temperature regimens of ( –120; –120; –120°С) and (–60; –120; –120°С) significantly increased the body’s adaptive capabilities in young rats due to the activation of their homeostatic regulatory systems. At the same time, the combined RECE regimen (‒60; –120; ‒120°С) appeared to be the most optimal for mature animals, since it...

Melatonin Prevents the Development of Age-Related Pathology in Male Rats during Accelerated Aging Caused by Impaired Photoperiodism
AbstractThe purpose of the work was to study the role of melatonin in the development of age-related pathology and morbidity in male rats under model conditions of accelerated aging caused by impaired photoperiodism. Circadian-rhythm disruption upon exposure to light at night initiates the development of age-related changes in the body and contributes to the formation of age-associated diseases. The article presents the results of an experimental study showing that the use of melatonin in laboratory animals in various light regimes (standard lighting, natural lighting in northwest Russia, and constant lighting) significant...

Analytical Study of Patterns of the Survival Curves of Experimental Objects in Model Experiments on Daphnia magna
AbstractThe phenomenon of multiphasic survival curves found in drosophila is confirmed in experiments on daphnids. Mathematical modeling showed that the multiphasic nature of daphnids survival curves reflected abrupt changes in the death rate of objects during phase transition. The phase of a sharp increase in mortality observed at an early age in intact drosophila occurs in daphnids only as reaction to a negative impact. The induction of reactive changes by weak external signals resulted in decreased survival for young daphnids. A logical conclusion was made about the reaction readiness for each experimental individual. I...

AEDG Peptide Regulation of the Expression of Human Circadian Rhythm Genes upon Accelerated Aging of the Pineal Gland
AbstractNight work desynchronizes biorhythms, disturbs melatonin production, and accelerates pineal-gland aging. A promising geroprotector for the restoration of pineal melatonin synthesis is AEDG (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) peptide. AEDG peptide increases 6-sulfatoxymelatonin (6-SOMT) excretion in the urine of middle-aged people by 1.7 times. Moreover, AEDG peptide normalizes the hyperexpression of theClock andCsnk1e circadian genes in leukocytes and increasesCry2 gene hypoexpression in peripheral blood lymphocytes by two times in people with reduced epiphyseal melatonin-production. The geroprotective effect of AEDG peptide is base...
