A novel AP/PA total body irradiation technique using abutting IMRT fields at extended SSD
CONCLUSIONS: We have developed a promising TBI technique using abutting IMRT fields at extended SSD. The patient is in a comfortable recumbent position with good reproducibility and less motion during treatment. An additional benefit of this technique is that full 3D dose distribution is available from the TPS with a DVH summary for organs of interest. The technique allows precise sparing of lungs and kidneys and can be executed in any linac room.PMID:38425126 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14213 (Source: Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics)

Organ-sparing techniques and dose-volume constrains used in breast cancer radiation therapy - Results from European and Latin American surveys
CONCLUSION: The delineation approaches and sparing techniques for OAR in BC RT vary between ROs worldwide. The low response rate to the dose constraints subset of queries reflects the uncertainty surrounding this topic and supports the need for detailed consensus recommendations in the clinical practice.PMID:38425691 | PMC:PMC10900109 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctro.2024.100752 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Technical note: A simple method for patient-specific quality assurance for lateral targets on a 1.5 T MR-Linac
J Appl Clin Med Phys. 2024 Mar 1:e14323. doi: 10.1002/acm2.14323. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Elekta Unity magnetic resonance (MR) linac is limited to longitudinal couch motion and a sagittal-only laser, which restricts the ability to perform patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) measurements for very lateral targets. This work introduces a simple method to perform PSQA using the Sun Nuclear ArcCheck-MR phantom at left and right lateral positions without additional equipment or in-house construction. The proposed setup places the center of the phantom 1.3 cm vertical and 12...

The use of dose surface maps as a tool to investigate spatial dose delivery accuracy for the rectum during prostate radiotherapy
CONCLUSION: DSMs enabled spatial investigations of planned and delivered doses can uncover associations with interfraction motion that are otherwise masked in DVHs. Investigations of dose delivery accuracy in radiotherapy may benefit from using DSMs over DVHs for certain organs such as the rectum.PMID:38425148 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14314 (Source: Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics)

Whole-pelvic irradiation with boost to involved nodes and prostate in node-positive prostate cancer —long-term data from the prospective PLATIN-2 trial
ConclusionDefinitive radiation to the lymphatic drainage with SIB to the involved nodes and prostate is a  safe and effective treatment approach for patients with treatment-naïve, node-positive prostate cancer with excellent infield tumor control rates and tolerable toxicity. Location rather than number of involved nodes is a major risk factor for progression. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Noninvasive inter- and intrafractional motion control in ultrahypofractionated radiation therapy of prostate cancer using RayPilot HypoCath ™—a substitute for gold fiducial-based IGRT?
Conclusionthe HypoCath system allows highly accurate and robust intrafractional motion monitoring. In conjunction with cone beam CT (CBCT) for initial patient setup, it could be used as a  standalone image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) system. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Capecitabine/cisplatin combined with concurrent intensity-modulated radiation therapy: a feasible therapeutic strategy for anal squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionThe XP regimen was as effective as the MF regimen in non-metastatic ASCC. Compared with the standard MF regimen, XP combined with IMRT showed higher treatment completion and lower toxicities. It could be considered a feasible alternative for patients with non-metastatic ASCC. (Source: Clinical and Translational Oncology)

Impact of prostate position-based image-guidance in intensity-modulated radiation therapy for localized prostate cancer
ConclusionsThe use of P-IGRT with higher doses and smaller margins was correlated with significantly better biochemical control, and a lower incidence of rectal bleeding in IMRT for intermediate-risk prostate cancer. The enhanced accuracy using P-IGRT has the potential to independently improve disease control and reduce late rectal bleeding. (Source: International Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Biochemical outcome after curative treatment for localized prostate cancer with external beam radiotherapy: a cross-sectional study
This study retrospectively assessed the clinicopathological characteristics and biochemical outcomes of patients treated for localised CaP with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) between 2015 and 2020 at a major cancer treatment centre in Accra, Ghana. Patients' socio-demographic and clinical data were collected from their hospital records and analysed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 26. Biochemical failure (BCF) was defined as an increase in the level of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) >2 ng/mL above the nadir after curative therapy based on the Phoenix definition. The mean age was 67.6 ye...

Quality of Life Longitudinal Evaluation in Prostate Cancer Patients from Radiotherapy Start to 5 Years after IMRT-IGRT
CONCLUSIONS: In this prospective, longitudinal, observational study, high radiation IMRT doses delivered for PCa led to a temporary worsening of QoL, which tended to be completely resolved at six months. Such transient worsening was mostly associated with acute GI/GU toxicity, WPRT, and higher prescription doses.PMID:38392056 | DOI:10.3390/curroncol31020062 (Source: Current Oncology)
