Disease control and late toxicity in Adaptive Dose Painting by Numbers vs. non-adaptive radiotherapy for head and neck cancer: a randomized controlled phase II trial
CONCLUSION: A-DPBN resulted in superior 1- and 2-year LC for HNC compared to S-IMRT. This supports further exploration in multicenter phase III trials. It will however be challenging to recruit a substantial patient sample for such trials as concerns have arisen on the association of late mucosal ulcers when escalating the dose in continuing smokers.PMID:38387811 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.01.012 (Source: Health Physics)

Late Pulmonary Side Effects: Contemporary Breast Radiation Does Not Take Our Breath Away
Adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) is a critical component of breast cancer management for many patients. During the past 2 decades, advances in technology have enabled refinement of this treatment to improve its efficacy and toxicity profile. Most recently, emphasis has been placed on the avoidance of cardiac toxicity.1 Deep inspiration breath hold, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and proton therapy are examples of approaches that can be used to minimize cardiac radiation exposure. Radiation-induced lung toxicity is another concern for physicians, given the morbidity and mortality historically associated with pneumoni...

Systemic interrogation of immune-oncology-related proteins in patients with locally advanced prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation and intensity-modulated radiotherapy
ConclusionLRG1 biomarker is associated with I-O proteins and can be used to improve stratification and monitoring of prostate cancer patients undergoing ADT  + RT. This work will require further in-depth analyses in independent cohorts with treatment outcome data.Graphical abstractStudy outline. A) Study cohorts. Dosimetric comparison of 3DCRT and IMRT in radical chemoradiotherapy of squamous cell carcinoma esophagus
CONCLUSIONS: IMRT avoids areas of excessive irradiation within the PTV. IMRT improves dose conformity to the target volume and homogeneity of dose distribution within the PTV. The cardiac dose is significantly reduced with IMRT. The mean lung dose remains similar to 3DCRT. There is no significant increase in the volume of lung receiving low-dose radiation with IMRT.PMID:38376288 | DOI:10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_1664_21 (Source: Cell Research)
