Impact of care coordination on 30-day readmission, mortality, and costs for heart failure
CONCLUSIONS: High care coordination is associated with decreased 30-day readmission, mortality, and costs for HF. Enhancing coordination of care has the potential to increase the value of care. It is important to monitor coordination of care and develop strategies to maintain high levels of care coordination for HF.PMID:38603537 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2024.89533 (Source: The American Journal of Managed Care)

Delays in Care by Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic Using Cross-Sectional Data From National Institutes of Health's All of Us Research Program
CONCLUSIONS: In this study of diverse U.S. participants, women and Black and other race-ethnicity men were more likely than white men to report delays in care, both before and during COVID-19. Addressing care delays may be necessary to ameliorate health disparities by race-ethnicity and gender.PMID:38599938 | DOI:10.1016/j.whi.2024.02.003 (Source: Cancer Control)

What is the relationship between the local population change and cancer incidence in patients with dyslipidemia: Evidence of the impact of local extinction in Korea
CONCLUSION: Patients in regions where the population has declined are at a higher risk of cancer, highlighting the importance of managing medical problems caused by regional extinction. This could provide evidence for and useful insights into official policies on population decline and cancer risk.PMID:38597133 | DOI:10.1002/cam4.7169 (Source: Cancer Control)

Maternal asthma and asthma exacerbation during pregnancy and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in offspring: a population-based cohort study
AbstractThe link between inflammatory disorders, such as asthma, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is attracting increasing attention but few studies have examined cross-generational associations. We sought to examine associations of maternal asthma and asthma exacerbation during pregnancy, as well as paternal asthma, with the risk of ADHD in children. This population-based cohort study used data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database from 2004 to 2017. Cox regression models compared the risk of ADHD in children of parents with and without asthma, adjusting for parental sociodemograph...

Childhood vaccination coverage and regional differences in Swiss birth cohorts 2012-2021: Are we on track?
CONCLUSION: Full vaccination coverage in Swiss children is still below 90 % with many vaccinations administered delayed. Given regional differences, missed or delayed booster vaccinations, and differences in vaccine-specific acceptability, more effort may be needed to achieve national vaccination targets.PMID:38593195 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.10.043 (Source: Vaccine)

Examining Utilization of Family-Based Treatment in Substance Use Treatment Centers
AbstractThe multiple benefits of family-based treatment (FBT) used in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment include increased treatment engagement, better treatment outcomes, and cost-effectiveness compared to other behavioral health treatment modalities. However, the prevalence and types of FBTs offered among SUD treatment facilities are largely unknown. The present study used data collected during 2009 –2010 from 325 treatment centers in the United States to (1) explore the prevalence in the utilization of FBT in SUD treatment, and (2) identify differences between treatment facilities that do and do not offer FBT. Res...

Unmet need for alcohol use disorder treatment in reproductive-age females, with emphasis on pregnant and parenting populations in the United States: Findings from NSDUH 2015 –2021
This study describes the most recent patterns in the past year AUD prevalence and treatment among reproductive-aged women, with a specific focus on pregnant and parenting women, and barriers to treatment among those affected. We analyzed data on rep roductive-age women from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2015–2021). We used generalized linear models to estimate prevalence ratios (PR) for past 12-month AUD and its treatment based on DSM-V criteria. We considered sociodemographic characteristics, including age, race/ethnicity, inco me, health insurance type, and arrest history. Pregnant and parenting women dis...
