Comparative Interrupted Time Series Analysis of Direct Medical Expense and Length of Stay in Elderly Patients with Femoral Neck Fractures Who Underwent Total Hip Arthroplasty and Hemiarthroplasty: A Real World Nationwide Database Study
CONCLUSIONS: When performing THA in elderly patients with femoral neck fractures, the possibility of survival for at least 2 years should be considered from the perspective of medical expense and medical utilization. Additionally, in healthy and active male femoral neck fracture patients under the age of 80 years, THA may be more recommended than HA.PMID:38562640 | PMC:PMC10973615 | DOI:10.4055/cios23282 (Source: Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery)

Prevalence, Incidence, and Treatment Pattern of Wilson's Disease Using National Health Insurance Data From 2010-2020, Korea
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of WD in Korea is 3.06/100,000 and approximately 1,800 patients use medical services annually. A significant proportion of patients are diagnosed at the cirrhotic stage and not treated with Cu-chelating therapeutics, suggesting the need for early diagnosis and adequate treatment to improve prognosis.PMID:38565173 | PMC:PMC10985507 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e115 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

The roads to managed competition for mixed public-private health systems: a conceptual framework
Health Econ Policy Law. 2024 Apr 2:1-16. doi: 10.1017/S1744133123000373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHealth systems' insurance/funding can be organised in several ways. Some countries have adopted systems with a mixture of public-private involvement (e.g. Australia, Chile, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand) which creates two-tier health systems, allowing consumers (groups) to have preferential access to the basic standard of care (e.g. skipping waiting times). The degree to which efficiency and equity are achieved in these types of systems is questioned. In this paper, we consider integration of the two tiers by means o...

How The "Great Resignation" and COVID Unemployment Have Eroded the Employer Sponsored Insurance Model and Access to Healthcare
Am J Law Med. 2023 Dec;49(4):415-435. doi: 10.1017/amj.2024.1. Epub 2024 Apr 2.ABSTRACTPre-pandemic, employer-sponsored health insurance (ESI) covered 175 million workers and their dependents, the equivalent of 49% of the country's total population. ESI, a valuable tax preference to employer and employee alike, spurred worker job dependence on employers resulting in access to healthcare dependent upon continued employment. With the advent of the pandemic and the dramatic increase in unemployment, the number of uninsured increased by more than 2.7 million people. Then, unemployment proliferated further by an unprecedented e...
