The roads to managed competition for mixed public-private health systems: a conceptual framework
Health Econ Policy Law. 2024 Apr 2:1-16. doi: 10.1017/S1744133123000373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHealth systems' insurance/funding can be organised in several ways. Comparative Interrupted Time Series Analysis of Direct Medical Expense and Length of Stay in Elderly Patients with Femoral Neck Fractures Who Underwent Total Hip Arthroplasty and Hemiarthroplasty: A Real World Nationwide Database Study
CONCLUSIONS: When performing THA in elderly patients with femoral neck fractures, the possibility of survival for at least 2 years should be considered from the perspective of medical expense and medical utilization. Additionally, in healthy and active male femoral neck fracture patients under the age of 80 years, THA may be more recommended than HA.PMID:38562640 | PMC:PMC10973615 | DOI:10.4055/cios23282 (Source: Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery)

Early-onset dementia and risk of hip fracture and major osteoporotic fractures
DISCUSSION: EOD patients have a higher risk of osteoporotic fractures than cognitively healthy individuals. The use of cholinesterase inhibitors may reduce the risk of hip fracture among EOD patients.HIGHLIGHTS: It is unknown whether early-onset dementia (EOD) increases the risk of fractures. We identified 13,614 individuals with EOD using a nationwide administrative database. Patients with EOD have a higher risk of hip, vertebral, and major osteoporotic fractures. The use of cholinesterase inhibitors may reduce hip fracture among patients with EOD.PMID:38561022 | DOI:10.1002/alz.13815 (Source: The Journal of Alzheimers Association)

Positive correlation between persistence of medical nutrition therapy and overall survival in patients with head and neck cancer
Conclusion: The main outcome of the study is that there is a positive correlation between the persistence of MNT and the overall survival in HNC patients when nutritional intervention lasts several months. It highlights the responsibility of the specialists during the patient journey to use MNT early and to continue its use for as long as it is beneficial to the patients.PMID:38559567 | PMC:PMC10979420 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2024.1611664 (Source: Pathology Oncology Research)

Time interval between surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer after gastrectomy: a population-based cohort study using a nationwide claim database
CONCLUSION: Adjuvant chemotherapy after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer should be initiated within 5 weeks of surgery. A delay of more than 5 weeks may have a detrimental effect on the subsequent disease course.PMID:38559613 | PMC:PMC10981231 | DOI:10.1177/17588359241241972 (Source: Adv Data)
