Reducing radicality in fertility-sparing surgery is associated with improved in vitro fertilization outcome in early-stage cervical cancer: A national retrospective study
CONCLUSION: This is the largest study to evaluate IVF outcomes in young cervical cancer survivors who have undergone FSS. The findings suggest that less radical procedures are associated with significantly better IVF outcomes. These results emphasize the importance of considering oncological safety and reproductive outcomes together when choosing FSS for early-stage cervical cancer patients. It also highlights the reproductive benefits of performing less radical surgery.PMID:38569327 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.03.024 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Exploring the challenges of taiwanese nurses in the COVID-19 post-pandemic era
This study, conducted from May to November 2023, employed a qualitative inquiry using focus groups to delve into these challenges. Six focus group sessions, involving 33 nurse participants recruited through snowball sampling from various hospital settings were conducted to explore their clinical experiences during and after the pandemic. Thematic analysis revealed two primary themes: the 'Invisibility of Nurses' within the healthcare system and the 'Moral Duty of Nursing Practice'. These findings illuminate a tension between the overlooked role of nurses and their ethical obligations, underscoring a critical need for polic...

Association between hemoglobin trajectories and the incidence of dementia in a cohort of females aged 55 –79 years
ConclusionThe decreasing trajectory of hemoglobin levels within the normal range was associated with dementia. Even females aged 55 –79 years without anemia might be vulnerable to dementia development risk. (Source: PLoS One)

Comparison of medication persistence and adherence in type 2 diabetes using a once-weekly regimen of DPP-4 inhibitor compared with once-daily and twice-daily regimens: a retrospective cohort study of Japanese health insurance claims data
ConclusionsThe 12-month medication persistence rates were highest for QD, followed by QW and then BID. Adherence was similar for all three regimens. Medication persistence for DPP-4i may be improved by tailoring regimens to patient characteristics and needs. (Source: Diabetology International)

Health Disparities Among Children in Immigrant Households: New York City 2009 and 2017
AbstractWe tested the hypothesis that children in New York City (NYC) with an immigrant parent were more likely to lack health insurance and report poorer parent-rated health compared to those of US-born parents in this serial, cross-sectional study using existing data from 2009 to 2017 among children age  <  12 years in two NYC health surveys. Main outcomes were parent-reported responses for (1) child insurance coverage and (2) child general health status. In multivariable logistic regression models, we estimated likelihood of outcomes for children of immigrants compared to those of US-born parents, adjusting for c...

Population tipping point could arrive by 2030
Two point one: That’s how many children everyone able to give birth must have to keep the human population from beginning to fall. Demographers have long expected the world will dip below this magic number—known as the replacement level—in the coming decades. A new study published last month in The Lancet , however, puts the tipping point startlingly near: as soon as 2030. It’s no surprise that fertility is dropping in many countries, which demographers attribute to factors such as higher education levels among people who give birth, rising incomes, and expanded access to contraceptives. The United ...
