English version of Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines 2022 for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) issued by the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology
AbstractThe Japan Society of Clinical Oncology Clinical Practice Guidelines 2022 for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) have been published in accordance with the Minds Manual for Guideline Development 2014 and 2017. A specialized team independent of the working group for the revision performed a systematic review. Since GIST is a rare type of tumor, clinical evidence is not sufficient to answer several clinical and background questions. Thus, in these guidelines, we considered that consensus among the experts who manage GIST, the balance between benefits and harms, patients ’ wishes, medical economic perspective, etc...

Association between the social vulnerability index and breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening rates in Rhode Island
ConclusionThe SVI, especially its socioeconomic domain, is a useful tool for identifying areas that are under-served by current efforts to expand access to screening for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. These areas should be prioritized for new place-based partnerships that address barriers to screening at the individual and community level. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 in South Korea: a comprehensive analysis of cancer and comorbidity risks
ConclusionsDM1 patients have a noteworthy occurrence of several comorbidities such as cancer, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and earlier cataract surgery. This highlights the importance of a comprehensive and integrative approach to the management and treatment of DM1, going beyond addressing only the primary neuromuscular symptoms. More research is required to understand the underlying mechanisms contributing to these comorbidities in DM1 patients, which may inform preventative measures and guide improvements in patient care. Healthier at work for longer? Trends in life years free of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases in the employed and general population based on health insurance claims data
DISCUSSION: The study shows that disease-free life years among employed persons developed in some cases worse than in the general population. For the analysed disease groups MSD and CVD, there are clear inequalities between occupational groups, which decreased somewhat over time. The inequalities and the decrease in years free of MSD highlight the high public health relevance and the need for effective prevention strategies to prevent CVD and MSD in working age.PMID:38607434 | DOI:10.1007/s00103-024-03868-8 (Source: Bundesgesundheitsblatt, Gesundheitsforschung, Gesundheitsschutz)

Inequalities in women ’s health insurance coverage before and after the implementation of universal health insurance in Indonesia
AbstractIndonesia implemented a National Social Security System (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, JKN) in 2014. To examine the changes in the magnitude of socioeconomic inequity in women's health insurance coverage among those of reproductive age, we conducted a repeated cross-sectional study design using data from the Indonesia Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 2012 and 2017, before and after the implementation of JKN. Results showed that while the JKN program helped to increase health insurance coverage among Indonesian women of childbearing age, low education level and household wealth status were associated with a...

Association of Tumor Necrosis Factor- α Inhibitors with Incident Dementia: Analysis Based on Population-Based Cohort Studies
ConclusionsTumor necrosis factor- α inhibitors may decrease the risk of incident dementia although the association did not reach statistical significance in this analysis. Further research, ideally with randomization, is needed to gauge the potential of repurposing TNFi for dementia prevention and/or treatment. (Source: Drugs and Aging)

Preference-Based Implementation of Video Consultations in Urban and Rural Regions in Outpatient Care in Germany: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study is intended to develop a targeted strategy for health policy makers based on actual preferences and perceived obstacles to the use of video consultations. The results of this study will contribute to further user-oriented development of the implementation of video consultations in German statutory health insurance. Furthermore, the iterative and mixed methods approach used in this study protocol is also suitable for a variety of other research projects.INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): DERR1-10.2196/50932.PMID:38602749 | DOI:10.2196/50932 (Source: Rural Remote Health)
