Retaking Genetics?
Hi guys! I have a bit of a conundrum. I’m a post-bac student working full-time as a clinical research assistant. In undergrad, I minored in biology (not pre-med), so I took several bio classes then...but that was 3 years ago. I took genetics my senior year of undergrad (2016) and got a C+. That will satisfy pretty much all of the schools I’m looking at that require it specifically. My advisor is encouraging me to retake genetics this summer for the purpose of increasing my gpa and... TA as volunteering?
I was a TA for Genetics class this last year as well as have tutored chemistry, Biology, Ochem, Biochem and physics for a year and a half. None of it was for credit or pay, however I will have an LOR from the TA professor. Should I put this all under the teaching/TA tab or non-clinical volunteering? I guess, more fundamental question: do ADCOMs skim the categories titles for the “checked boxes” (Which I have not tried do do, although I have at least 1 EC in each category >25 hours...) to... MCAT Blind Test
Hi, I did an AAMC Practice Exam blindly. Here are my results, I am kind of upset but I hope that they can go up. Again, have not done ANY studying. Phys/Chem: 125 CARS: 122 Bio: 121 Psych/Soc: 118 The chemistry section was fairly easy, I like chemistry, there is a lot for me to learn, I am weak in physics CARS passages are my weakest in the ACT from high school Bio: My biochem professor tried to cover the whole text in one semester, didn't do in detail and it seemed like a lot of genetics... Orgo and A & P help!!
Hey all. Next Semester I will be taking Organic Chemistry 1, Human A&P 1, and Genetics (Along with 2 other minor 3 credit classes I'm not too worried about) all in one semester. I was wondering how many hours/week I should expect to study for Orgo and anatomy. For Genetics, I know about 2 hours/day should work. How many hours/day do you think I should study for A&P and Orgo? I know for Orgo, practice is key and takes up a majority of study time. Should I plan on studying 3 hours/day for A&P... Orgo and A&P help!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello SDN, Looking to narrow down my school list from around 40 to 30 hopefully. 400 clinical, 400 nonclinical volunteering at substance abuse clinic for the past 4 years. 500 hours of computational genetic research and currently working on my own project for publication. 521 MCAT, 3.85 sGPA, 3.7 cGPA after taking all my prereqs with 50 credits of 4.0. 75 hrs shadowing - ER, Psych. What's my chances at DO?
Hi everyone! Im a senior in NY and wanted to post another what are my chances because graduation is coming closer and my anxiety is on the rise lol. Current cGPA: 3.49 Current sGPA: 3.19 I have some volunteer, shadowing, and club activities that I have been involved with. I do have a huge financial disadvantage which did cause me to work my entire 4 years of undergrad. I got a C in orgo and a C+ in genetics in my earlier years of college but I have had an incredible upward trend with... What's my chances at DO? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Freaking out about financial aid (lack thereof)... advice?
Hi, I am lucky enough to have one acceptance, but it is at a notoriously expensive school. However, I figured since my parents make very little, I might get a good aid package, but boy was I wrong. My "aid" is entirely federal loans, which add up to about $400k after 4 years of school and $500k+ with interest. My expected contribution is 0, but my parents can't help me, and the areas of medicine I could see myself in (peds, FM, medical genetics) are some of the lowest-paying. I feel... Question about systems-based curriculum (organ system "blocks")
So I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of a systems-based curriculum and how exactly it's broken down. The way I understand it currently is for each particular organ system, you attack it from all directions, including microbiology, physiology, genetics, biochemistry, and pathology, as well as any behavioral/social sciences related to the topic. However, how does this actually look in reality? Say that an OMS1 or OMS2 is trying to go through the STEP 1 review resources (BRS... Top 5 PhD vs top 20 MSTP: Career Impact
Hi All, It seems like PhD programs have a lot more variation in the types of students that they accept (GPA, GRE) as long as the research experiences are solid, whereas MSTP programs still value GPA and MCAT above all else. I think my application will be more competitive for straight PhD based on LOR's from research mentors and my only decent (3.8ish) GPA. Here is my question: Is a top a PhD program in genetics/synthetic bio/whatever (Harvard, MIT, Etc.) going to have greater potential... 3.3 GPA Freshman year
Hey guys, so most likely I'm going to end up with a 3.3-3.4 GPA for freshman year. I started off really bad with not really studying, and the second semester I stepped it up. I've taken Bio 1 and currently taking molecular genetics and have taken both gen chem 1 and 2. Calculus 1 and 2 I've taken. I was just wondering if I am screwed for medical school or not. I have seemed to find out my studying routine now and this summer is doing an internship at a hospital for patient experience... 3.3 GPA Freshman year (Source: Student Doctor Network)
