Why DO Interview Question
Hello all! I'm preparing for DO interviews and wanted to use this example of why I like the principles of osteopathic medicine, but wanted some opinions. I'd start off by talking a little bit about the history, and then what I specifically really resonate with is viewing an individual as a whole. We are not all one homogenous species, and while we're 99.9% genetically similar, we have so many factors that distinguish us from one another and these all play a role in disease. For example, a... WAMC Texas Medical Schools Low GPA
I graduated recently and unfortunately, my GPA has a slight downward trend. Should I retake the MCAT for a more competitive score? Or should I apply for a one-year SMP? I am currently a Texas resident and plan on applying to all Texas schools. Is my GPA too low for MD? Any advice is appreciated! cGPA: 3.3 sGPA: 3.1 MCAT Score: 507 (126/126/127/128) Shadowing: 300+ hours (Emergency Medicine & OBGYN) Research: Summer internship with a poster presentation (Molecular Genetics) Non-clinical... Am I stupid for doing this?
Hi all, So I found out my school is giving us a long winter break so I plan to grind from November to March. Unfortunately that means I will only get about 1/3 of biochem and physics 2 before the test and I will not have taken sociology. I have taken bio, chem, orgo, psych, calculus, physics 1, cell biology, genetics. Is it feasible for me to self study or is this MCAT suicide? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cell Biology or Microbiology?
I only have time to take one more biology class before my MCAT. I've taken Gen Bio I & II plus Genetics. Would you guys recommend Cell Biology or Microbiology in preparation for the MCAT? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How hard is medical school?
Hi everyone, I was pre-med and have been thinking about getting my **** together in order to apply to med school but I do struggle with stress a bit. So, I wanted to ask, how hard is medical school anyways? I didn't study much in college, but I did study for 5-6 hours a day 5-6 times a week in my post-bacc and I did well, got all A's. I think I did get one A- but that's a long story that I don't want to get into here. I didn't study much for a genetics exam and that is why I got an A- in... How hard is medical school? Pre-Dental: What courses should I take for upper level biology electives?
Help! I am currently in a jam with which upper level science electives to take. Here are my options: immunology, cell biology, endocrinology, molecular genetics, pathophysiology, medical botany, neurobiology, and developmental biology. I am leaning towards neurobiology, pathophysiology, medical botany, and immunology. I would take developmental biology, but the professor that teaches it at my university is kind of a joke and I heard it's really easy. I don't want to waste my time even though... Is biochem 2 needed for the MCAT?
Hey there. As I was reading through the MCAT biochem topics I became a bit scared because of the names without further explanation of how in depth knowledge of these topics needs to be. Basically at my school biochem 2 covers advanced topics in DNA replication and recombination and various protein behaviors and a bit of advanced genetics. The class is not hard itself because of professor. I just wonder how important this class would be to do well on the MCAT? Most threads on this forum... Is biochem 2 needed for the MCAT? To what extent do doctors actually use the knowledge they collect to perform well on the MCAT each day in their practice?
Sort of a playful question for the room. Sometimes studying for something that feels overwhelming is grinding. Especially when you feel like you're just teaching yourself a lot of information that you're not really going to use again. So to what extent do practicing doctors actually call upon the biology, biochem, and genetics material they covered during their pre-reqs? Or would you contextualize MCAT content as essentially gatekeeping and not necessarily information you absolutely need to... How quick does "use it or lose it" set in?
I took Step 1 early June of this year (2020), and today my attending pimped me on Prader Willi/Fragile X syndrome and I was like ".....whaaaat? What is genetic dizordurzz". I literally remembered nothing. Is it normal to lose the Step 1 details this quickly? I did fine on Step, but it appears to be a cram-and-dump type exam. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

School List Request: Mid 20s, 3.3 GPA, 499 MCAT
Hello. To preface, I’m aware my numbers are on shaky ground, so we can get that out of the way. However, I think my numbers fall within some parameters for DO admission, especially when combined with my experiences. I’m in my mid 20s and graduated college four-ish years ago. The 3.3 cGPA was done with extensive post-bacc repair from a 3.0 via advanced science courses - genetics, pharmacology and the like. The 499 unfortunately comes from multiple retakes, including with the new COVID... School List Request: Mid 20s, 3.3 GPA, 499 MCAT (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Online Courses During the Pandemic
Hey, I was just wondering over whether online courses in the sciences for med schools would be ok with them given the pandemic's effect on the classroom environment. I'm a relatively new member of SDN so I do not know if this has been discussed before in previous threads. Maybe whether or not online courses for organic chem, micro, genetics, and the rest of the major science courses that are either required or recommended depends on a case by case basis? In my case, I'm trying to register... Online Courses During the Pandemic (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Recent ugrad/software engineer considering MD/PhD
Hi all, I'm a recent Cornell grad, and am looking into applying to MD/PhD programs in 2-3 years. I graduated with a biology major and computer science minor (cGPA: 3.6). I've taken most of the premed requirements, including general bio and chemistry, orgo, biochem, genetics, and physics. I did software engineering internships at Google during all three of my undergraduate summers, and will be starting work there as a software engineer in a couple weeks. I'm new to SDN, but was hoping to... Recent ugrad/software engineer considering MD/PhD (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I even have a chance?
Hey everyone! I just want to give some background first: I'm a black male that graduated from undergrad about 2 years ago, and I started as a premed student. I was the typical naive premed Freshman that was in school for a Biology degree. I took Organic Chem. a total of 5 times(OChem l- 3 times (C), OChem(W)), I also made an F in Genetics both times I took it, an F in Micro., a C in Phys. l, and I didn't take Phys. ll or BioChem. I was working a job that paid a lot of money while in... Do I even have a chance? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-Science Major Question
Hello! I am currently pursuing a double major with one being Biochemistry and the other being a humanities major. In order to fit everything, I pretty much used AP credits for the basic science course (calc, bio, chem, phys). I have taken organic, first semester of biochem, lab courses, statistics, and plan to take classes like astronomy, cell biology, neuroscience, and possibly genetics by the time I apply. Upon conducting research on this matter, I have found that medical schools want a... Non-Science Major Question (Source: Student Doctor Network)
