SCUHS Accelerated Science Courses
Hi all, Has anyone on this forum had experience taking the accelerated science courses at SCUHS? They are convenient for my schedule and I'm considering taking classes there to wrap up up some final upper-levels (probably biochem and genetics). However, there isn't too much info about them from past threads and I'm not sure how legitimate the courses are given their length and the institution. Any feedback is appreciated. Considering internships for the future as an aspirant physician-scientist
Hey all 👋, I’ve posted in these forums a couple of times, but I wanted to gain some potential advice or pointers on where to apply for undergraduate summer research experience. I currently have an internship position for summer 2022, Aspirnaut/Hal Moses Research Program at VUMC, which would be my first biomedical research experience ever, so I’m very grateful for the position. Moreover, for future reference, I was curious if anyone knew of genetic therapy- (any), cancer biology-, or... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Which research program is a better option?
Hi, I hope everyone is having a great day. I am currently a pre-med and have been doing research in Genetics at my college which I enjoy so I applied to some REUs to learn more and hopefully in the future pursue a PhD after getting an MD. Got into two: University of Georgia-Department of Genetics (in evolutionary genetics) Cornell University-Boyce Thompson Institute (in plant genetics) I would enjoy both but my question is.. would it harm my application to medical school to do research in... Boards and Beyond for Biochem/Genetics/Molecular?
My school teaches all of the biochem, molecular bio, and genetics material in first year, so I have forgotten a lot of it. I don't like the videos in sketchy (aside from micro) because it's just distracting. Pathoma doesn't cover these topics. I was thinking of getting BNB for 1 week just to watch these topics? Good idea? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When should a student retake a course?
To put things in perspective I started off my freshman and sophomore years pretty badly in that my freshman year's cgpa was a 3.3 and sgpa was a 2.0 (All C's in my science and math courses which included Gen chem 1, Gen bio 1, and Precalculus1.) As for my sophomore year my cgpa was a 3.53 and sgpa was a 3.2 (I earned an A in Gen bio 2 and repeated gen bio 1 and got an A in that but then ended up getting a B in Precalculus 2 and a C in Genetics). This all happened while I was in a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic dishonesty
In my junior first semester i got an academic dishonesty for genetics it was completely stupid and i had a near perfect score until then but now i will be failing the class and a academic dishonesty report is being submitted my sGpa was a 3.7 prior to this. What can i do or what should i do now. Post bacc is not an option. I was planning on taking a gap semester originally due to having too many credits should i not do that anymore? Are my chances of med school dashed now and i should just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1 vs 2 year Post Bac Program Advice
Hi there! I am currently a senior in college and have taken a few science courses (Chem I, Cell Bio, Genetics, and Physics I) but still have to complete the remaining courses so as to apply to medical school. I applied to Thomas Jefferson post bacc program (P4) and got accepted! I had applied to the 2 year program but during my interview, the program director discussed my ability to partake in the 1 year track instead of the 2 year one. I have been giving this some thought, and am leaning... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

long genetic QT syndrome?
Hi, I was taking a simulation exam, and I found this clinical case that raised several questions. The official answer is congenital long QT syndrome, but don't you think the correct response should be consumption of tricyclic antidepressants? Here is the clinical case: An 18-year-old man comes to the emergency department for an episode of syncope followed by seizures and later spontaneous recovery of consciousness. He says that he was running before the beginning of this episode and had a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Potential missing pre-req question
I was recently accepted to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. However, I am concerned I may not meet one of the pre-requisite requirements. The specific course was second semester general biology. My major was in Cell and Molecular Biology and I took many courses in the biological sciences including a genetics course. In fact my degree program used the genetics course in place of a second semester general bio course. Will my offer be rescinded because of this? Should I contact... Got an acceptance at my dream school, but now struggling to pass a class. Will it be rescinded?
I'm posting because I'm having a hard time finding an answer to this question. I've been lucky enough to receive an acceptance offer at my choice school. The problem is, I'm struggling through my genetics class right now and I'm worried about whether or not I'll even be able to get a 75%-80% (C or B-) upon completion. I have straight-A's and this has never happened before. Could I in theory get a D, pass, and still be accepted? The average on our last test was 57% and although I scored a...
