Antidepressants for smoking cessation.
CONCLUSIONS: The antidepressants bupropion and nortriptyline aid long-term smoking cessation. Adverse events with either medication appear to rarely be serious or lead to stopping medication. Evidence suggests that the mode of action of bupropion and nortriptyline is independent of their antidepressant effect and that they are of similar efficacy to nicotine replacement. Evidence also suggests that bupropion is less effective than varenicline, but further research is needed to confirm this finding. Evidence suggests that neither selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (e.g. fluoxetine) nor monoamine oxidase inhibitors aid ...

Brachioradial Pruritus: Mayo Clinic Experience over the Past Decade.
CONCLUSIONS: Brachioradial pruritus presented most commonly in females and was observed over a wide age range. Although a third of patients with imaging studies had cervical abnormalities, the significance of these findings is unclear since neurologists did not find structural causes of BRP in most cases. Some treatments were more successful than others in treating BRP. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Strategies for the Structural Determination of G Protein-coupled Receptors: From an Example of Histamine H1 Receptor.
Abstract   G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are major therapeutic drug targets and represent more than 30% of the market share of all prescription drugs. The high-resolution three-dimensional structures of the target receptors provide good initial models for structure-based approaches to drug screening and drug design, which are considered to accelerate drug discovery. However, significant bottlenecks at the expression, purification and crystallization stages of structure determination of GPCRs have existed. Here, we review recent techniques for the determination of GPCR structures. In particular, we ...

Doxepin and cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia in patients with Parkinson's disease – A randomized study
Conclusion: Doxepin and non-pharmacologic treatment substantially improved insomnia in Parkinson's disease. These potential benefits must be replicated in a full confirmatory randomized controlled trial. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)

Prescribing potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) in Germany's elderly as indicated by the PRISCUS list. An analysis based on regional claims data
ConclusionPRISCUS‐PIMs are widely used. Educational programs should focus on drugs with high treatment prevalence and call professionals' attention to those elderly patients who are at special risk for inappropriate medication. Fatal doxepin intoxication – Suicide or slow gradual intoxication?
Abstract: The differentiation of intoxication courses is one of the most difficult challenges for forensic pathologists and toxicologists. The case of a 52-year-old female inpatient of a psychiatric clinic with multiple medications who died from doxepin intoxication is reported. Concentrations of doxepin metabolites and isomers, pharmacokinetic modelling and genotyping of the doxepin-metabolizing cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes led to the following conclusion: the lethal doxepin concentration of 2100ng/mL was more likely to have been reached due to drug interactions and genetic peculiarities leading to a reduction of the met...
