Optimization of Phloretin-loaded Nanospanlastics for Targeting of FAS/SREBP1c/AMPK/ OB-Rb Signaling Pathway in HFD-induced Obesity
CONCLUSIONS: Administration of PTN-NSLs significantly attenuated the levels of glycemic, oxidative stress, and inflammatory biomarkers. The biochemical and PCR findings are aided by histological investigations. Also, the present findings imply that PTN-NSLs might be a promising pharmacological tool for the treatment of obesity-related diseases.PMID:38698746 | DOI:10.2174/0113892010278684240105115516 (Source: Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology)

Financial protection and equity in the healthcare financing system in Iran: a cross-sectional study among slum dwellers with type 2 diabetes
Conclusions As a result of insufficient use of insurance, cost-coping strategies used by slum dwellers vis-à-vis T2D expenditures do not protect them from financial risks. Expanding universal health coverage and providing supplemental insurance for those with T2D living in slums are recommended. Iran Health Insurance should adequately cover the costs of T2D care for slum dwellers so that they do not need to use alternative strategies. (Source: BMJ Open)

The Impact of National Health Insurance on the Cost of Auricular Reconstruction with Skin Expansion for Microtia in China: A Single-Center Retrospective Study Based on 1290 Surgeries
Congenital microtia presents challenges encompassing physical disabilities and psychosocial distress. It ’s reported that people with low income have a greater possibility of giving birth to a baby with a congenital malformation. At the end of June, 2023, auricular reconstruction was partially incorporated into national health insurance in our hospital. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)

Bartonella henselae DNA detection in patients with type 1 leprosy reactions for more than six months
Braz J Infect Dis. 2024 Apr 29:103743. doi: 10.1016/j.bjid.2024.103743. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLeprosy reactions are among the main causes of physical disability resulting from an infectious disease and can culminate in irreversible physical disabilities, therefore they should be considered a clinical emergency, as well as the elucidation of its cause. Co-infections are considered one of the main triggering causes of leprosy reactions, aggravating and maintaining these reactions for longer in these patients. After reporting a high rate of Bartonella henselae infection in patients with chronic type 2 leprosy reaction...

Utilizing network pharmacology, molecular docking, and animal models to explore the therapeutic potential of the WenYang FuYuan recipe for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury through AGE-RAGE and NF- κB/p38MAPK signaling pathway modulation
CONCLUSION: This study utilized network pharmacology, molecular docking, and animal experiments to identify the potential mechanism of the WenYang FuYuan recipe, which may be associated with the regulation of the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway and the inhibition of target proteins and mRNAs in the downstream NF-kB/p38MAPK pathway.PMID:38697555 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112448 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Global trends and differences in the burden of alcohol use disorders attributable to childhood sexual abuse by sex, age, and socio-demographic index: Findings from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Substantial geographical differences were observed in the burden of AUD attributable to CSA. The level of CSA exposure was inconsistent with the related burden of AUD in different regions according to the sociodemographic index. The burden of disease increased in the elderly population and in females in high sociodemographic index regions.PMID:38696952 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106818 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)

The burden of disease due to dietary exposure to acrylamide in Italy: a risk assessment-based approach
Food Chem Toxicol. 2024 Apr 30:114699. doi: 10.1016/j.fct.2024.114699. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to assess Italian consumers' risk of cancer and burden of disease due to dietary exposure to acrylamide. Our model considered six age groups such as infants, toddlers, other children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and the consumption of 31 food items. Using a risk-assessment-based approach, we first characterized the risk of neoplastic effects using the margin of exposure method. Then the risk of kidney, endometrial, breast, ovarian cancer, and total cancer was estimated using adjusted canc...

Cervical Disk Replacement Versus Anterior Cervical Diskectomy and Fusion: Effect of Procedural Variant on Patients With a Prolonged Preoperative Duration of Symptoms From Disk Herniation
CONCLUSION: Patients with prolonged PSD due to cervical DH demonstrated notable improvements in physical function, disability, pain, and mental health regardless of fusion versus arthroplasty techniques. Accounting for demographic variations, patients undergoing CDA demonstrated a greater magnitude of improvement and superior scores in physical function at the first postoperative follow-up. Rates of clinically tangible improvements in PROMs did not markedly vary by surgical procedure. Patients undergoing CDA may perceive greater early improvements to physical function compared with patients undergoing ACDF for prolonged PS...

Emerging technology has a brilliant future: the CRISPR-Cas system for senescence, inflammation, and cartilage repair in osteoarthritis
Cell Mol Biol Lett. 2024 May 2;29(1):64. doi: 10.1186/s11658-024-00581-x.ABSTRACTOsteoarthritis (OA), known as one of the most common types of aseptic inflammation of the musculoskeletal system, is characterized by chronic pain and whole-joint lesions. With cellular and molecular changes including senescence, inflammatory alterations, and subsequent cartilage defects, OA eventually leads to a series of adverse outcomes such as pain and disability. CRISPR-Cas-related technology has been proposed and explored as a gene therapy, offering potential gene-editing tools that are in the spotlight. Considering the genetic and multi...
