Prescriptions for Antipsychotics: Youth with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Compared to Youth without Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
CONCLUSION: Compared to youth without IDD, youth with IDD were more frequently dispensed antipsychotics and metformin. These findings have important implications for the health of youth with IDD.PMID:38678514 | DOI:10.1007/s10803-024-06344-z (Source: Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders)

Decision support tool for physical health (DST-PH): stratifying risks to reduce avoidable deaths in people with intellectual disability
This study used population health management principles to conceptualise a risk stratification tool for avoidable deaths in people with intellectual disability. A review of the literature examined the existing evidence of causes of death in people with intellectual disability. A qualitative methodology using focused groups of specialist clinicians was used to understand the factors that contributed towards avoidable deaths in people with intellectual disability. Delphi groups were used for consensus on the variables for inclusion in the risk stratification tool (Decision Support Tool for Physical Health).A pilot of the Dec...

Construct validation of the Japanese Core Outcome Measures Index and the impact of diseases on patient-reported outcome measures in preoperative patients with lumbar spinal stenosis and disk herniation: a single-center observational study
ConclusionsThis study highlights the distinct impact of LSS and LDH on preoperative QOL in older patients undergoing lumbar spinal surgery. Tailored interventions are essential to address the specific challenges posed by these conditions and improve patient-centered outcomes and postoperative recovery. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Comparison of lifetime mortality risk, incidence risk, and DALYs of baseline cancer rates among countries as a benchmark for radiation-related cancer risk
Statistical benchmark data are necessary when considering the basis for radiation protection criteria based on calculated risks. We herein focused on baseline mortality and incidence cancer rates as benchmark data collected from 33 countries. Furthermore, we calculated the lifetime mortality and incidence risks and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for all solid cancers, colon cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, and leukemia using the baseline cancer rates and compared them among the countries. The results showed that the lifetime mortality and incidence risks and DALYs for all solid cancers differed a...

Inequalities in birth before arrival at hospital in South West England: a multimethods study of neonatal hypothermia and emergency medical services call-handler advice
Conclusions Findings identified factors associated with BBA and neonatal hypothermia following BBA. Improvements to EMS call-handler advice could reduce the number of babies arriving at hospital hypothermic. (Source: BMJ Open)

Postoperative Morbidity after Dental Treatment under General Anesthesia in Children with and without Disabilities
Conclusions: CD more frequently reported complications like oral bleeding, fever, and diarrhea. In contrast, the CTL group more often reported pain-related symptoms. The conclusion underscores the need for a pain control protocol for CD and emphasizes the importance of frequent monitoring to prevent unwanted consequences during tooth restoration under general anesthesia.PMID:38674314 | PMC:PMC11051803 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040668 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Percutaneous tendon dry needling and thrust manipulation as an adjunct to multimodal physical therapy in patients with lateral elbow tendinopathy: A multicenter randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of percutaneous tendon electrical dry needling and thrust manipulation into a multimodal program of exercise, mobilization and ultrasound was more effective than multimodal physical therapy alone in individuals with lateral elbow tendinopathy.Trial Registration: www.clinicaltrials.gov NCT03167710 May 30, 2017.PMID:38676324 | DOI:10.1177/02692155241249968 (Source: Clinical Rehabilitation)

Exploring Allied Health Models of Care for Children with Developmental Health Concerns, Delays, and Disabilities in Rural and Remote Areas: A Systematic Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: Multiple models of care are currently in operation for children with developmental needs in rural and remote areas and appear to improve the quality of care. Due to complexities within, and limitations of, the evidence base, it is unclear if one model of care is superior to another. This review provides a basis for further research to explore why some models may be more effective than others.PMID:38673418 | PMC:PMC11050593 | DOI:10.3390/ijerph21040507 (Source: Rural Remote Health)
