Systematic immune cell dysregulation and molecular subtypes revealed by single-cell RNA-seq of subjects with type 1 diabetes
ConclusionsOur study reveals a surprisingly strong systemic dimension at the level of immune cell network in T1DM, defines disease-relevant molecular subtypes, and has the potential to guide non-invasive test development and patient stratification. (Source: Genome Medicine)

Effectiveness of a standardized scenario in teaching the management of pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) to residents: a simulation cross-sectional study
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a frequent manifestation at the onset of type 1 diabetes mellitus in children, possibly associated with a wide range of complications, often as a consequence of wrong or delayed ... (Source: BMC Medical Education)

The opportunities and challenges of the disease-modifying immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In conclusion, nonantigen-based immunotherapies were associated with a preservation of 2h and 4h C-peptide AUC in patients with T1D when compared with the controls, which was mainly driven by the effects of TNF-a inhibitor and T cell-targeted therapy. Both nonantigen-based immunotherapies and antigen-based immunotherapies tended to reduce the daily insulin dosage in patients with T1D when compared with the controls. However, they did not contribute to a substantial improvement in HbA1c or FBG. Both nonantigen-based immunotherapies and antigen-based immunotherapies were well tolerated with not increased risk of hypoglycemia...

Global cognition and executive functions of older adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus without dementia
ConclusionsExecutive function of psychomotor speed was worse in older outpatient adults without dementia with type 1 diabetes mellitus than in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus but with no significant differences in the comprehensive and practical behavioral assessment of dysexecutive syndrome. Patients with type 1 diabetes had more severely impaired executive function, whereas those with type 2 had greater impaired memory than executive function. (Source: Journal of Diabetes Investigation)

Induction of islet autoimmunity to defective ribosomal product of the insulin gene as neoantigen after anti-cancer immunotherapy leading to autoimmune diabetes
DiscussionThese results bridge cancer and T1D as two sides of the same coin and point to neoantigen expression in normal islets and insulinoma that may serve as target of both islet autoimmunity and tumor-related autoimmunity. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

The association of islet autoantibodies with the neural retinal thickness and microcirculation in type 1 diabetes mellitus with no clinical evidence of diabetic retinopathy
ConclusionsIAbs are associated with neural retinal thinning and microcirculation reduction in T1DM patients before the clinical onset of diabetic retinopathy. (Source: Acta Diabetologica)

A New Tool to Identify Pediatric Patients with Atypical Diabetes Associated with Gene Polymorphisms
CONCLUSION: We validated the DIAMODIA criteria, as it effectively identified all monogenic diabetes patients (MODY cohort) and succeeded to differentiate T1DM from MODY patients. The creation of this new and effective tool is likely to facilitate the characterization and therapeutic management of patients with atypical diabetes, and promptly referring them for genetic testing which would markedly improve clinical care and counseling, as well.PMID:38523249 | DOI:10.4093/dmj.2023.0166 (Source: Diabetes and Metabolism Journal)
