SnoRNAs in cardiovascular development, function, and disease
Trends Mol Med. 2024 Mar 23:S1471-4914(24)00059-5. doi: 10.1016/j.molmed.2024.03.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSmall nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) are emerging as important regulators of cardiovascular (patho)biology. Several roles of snoRNAs have recently been identified in heart development and congenital heart diseases, as well as their dynamic regulation in hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies, coronary heart disease (CHD), myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac fibrosis, and heart failure. Furthermore, reports of changes in vesicular snoRNA expression and altered levels of circulating snoRNAs in response to cardiac ...

The Impact of Home Cardiac Rehabilitation on Quality of Life and Psychological Well-Being in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease: A Randomized Controlled Study
This study aimed to investigate the effect of home cardiac rehabilitation (HCR) on patients after PCI. MATERIAL AND METHODS We randomly divided 106 patients after PCI into an Intervention group (n=52) and a Control group (n=53). Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), blood pressure, blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein were measured in both groups before hospital discharge and after 3 months of engaging in the intervention. Patients were assessed using the short-form health survey (SF-12) scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale. RESULTS After 3 months of HCR intervention, SF-12 scores of pati...

Involvement of Lipids and Lipid Mediators in Inflammation and Atherogenesis
Curr Med Chem. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.2174/0109298673303369240312092913. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is the pathophysiological basis for major diseases, such as coronary heart disease, cerebral stroke, and peripheral arterial disease, which have become epidemic in modern Western society. Atherosclerosis has a complex nature that involves mutually related immune and metabolic mechanisms. Many cells of the vascular wall and peripheral bloodstream, including endothelial cells, monocytes and macrophages, platelets, and others, are involved in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. These cells perfo...

A multi-centre investigation of macrovascular and non-ocular microvascular complications in children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus in southern Ghana
CONCLUSIONS: Macrovascular and non-ocular microvascular complications are common among children and adolescents with diabetes in southern Ghana and are associated with a long duration of diabetes diagnosis, abnormal body mass index, low HDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Therefore, the early institution of regular screening for diabetes-related complications to allow early detection and appropriate management is recommended.FUNDING: University of Ghana Research Fund.PMID:38504754 | PMC:PMC10846650 | DOI:10.4314/gmj.v57i2.2 (Source: Ghana Medical Journal)
