Prognostic value of growth differentiation factor ‐15 in heart failure among whole ejection fraction phenotypes
ConclusionsGDF-15 is identified as an independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in HF patients across the entire EF spectrum in the context of CHD. Integrating GDF-15 into the MAGGIC risk score-based model enhances its prognostic capability for adverse outcomes in the general HF population. This incremental prognostic effect was observed specifically in the HFpEF subgroup and not in other subgroups. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Association of Ultraprocessed Food Consumption with Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Among Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes: Findings from the UK Biobank
ConclusionHigher UPF intakes are associated with increased hazards of CVD among individuals with T2D, and the association is partly mediated through worsening biomarkers of renal function, lipid metabolism, inflammation, and body weight. (Source: Molecular Nutrition and Food Research)

Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 5 protects against intimal hyperplasia by regulation of macrophage polarization via directly targeting PPAR γ
ConclusionsCollectively, this evidence reveals an important role of TRAF5 in the development of intimal hyperplasia through the regulation of macrophage polarization, which provides a promising target for arterial restenosis-related disease management. (Source: Inflammation Research)

The Role of Left Ventricular Pressure-strain Loop in Evaluating Myocardial Work in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
CONCLUSION: Pressure-strain loop technology can quantitatively, accurately, and sensitively monitor the variations in left ventricular myocardial contractile function of patients with T2D and detect subclinical cardiac injury at an early disease stage.PMID:38639632 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

LDL-C and TC mediate the risk of PNPLA3 inhibition on cardiovascular diseases
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that PNPLA3 inhibition increases the risk of major CVDs. Moreover, blood LDL-C and TC may mediate a significant proportion of the associations between PNPLA3 inhibition and coronary atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, or myocardial infarction.PMID:38636099 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae264 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Lipoprotein(a) and Long-Term Cardiovascular Risk in a Multi-Ethnic Pooled Prospective Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: The study shows, in a large U.S. pooled cohort, that higher Lp(a) levels are associated with an increased ASCVD risk, including in patients with diabetes.PMID:38631771 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacc.2024.02.031 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Immune Homeostasis Maintenance Through Advanced Immune Therapeutics to Target Atherosclerosis
Methods Mol Biol. 2024;2782:25-37. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3754-8_2.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis remains the leading cause of coronary heart disease (CHD) with enormous health and societal tolls. Traditional drug development approaches have been focused on small molecule-based compounds that aim to lower plasma lipids and reduce systemic inflammation, two primary causes of atherosclerosis. However, despite the widely available lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory small compounds and biologic agents, CHD prevalence still remains high. Based on recent advances revealing disrupted immune homeostasis during atherosclerosis pathogen...

A Chinese classical prescription Xuefu Zhuyu decoction in the treatment of coronary heart disease: An overview
CONCLUSION: Through this study, we found that XFZYD has a significant therapeutic effect in the clinical treatment of coronary heart disease, which can play a role in the treatment of CHD by inhibiting atherosclerosis, inhibiting cardiovascular remodeling, improving oxidative stress damage, improving hemorheology, improving myocardial fibrosis and other mechanisms. Through computer simulation, it was found that the main effective components of XFZYD treatment for CHD were quercetin, kaempferol and luteolin, and the key core targets were IL6, VEGFA and P53, and each component had a high VEGFA libdock score. It is speculated...

Does shortage of GPs matter? A cross-sectional study of practice population life expectancy
CONCLUSION: The number of GPs, continuity of care, and access in England are declining, and it is worrying that these features of general practice were positively associated with life expectancy.PMID:38621806 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2023.0195 (Source: The British Journal of General Practice)

The overall fractions of coronary heart diseases and depression attributable to multiple dependent psychosocial work factors in Europe
ConclusionOur study showed that the overall fractions attributable to all studied psychosocial work factors were substantial especially for depression. These overall attributable fractions may be particularly useful to evaluate the burden and costs attributable to psychosocial work factors, and also to inform policies makers at European level. Treatment patterns and adherence to lipid-lowering drugs during eight-year follow-up after a coronary heart disease event
Proper prescription and high adherence to intensive lipid lowering drugs (LLD) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is crucial and strongly recommended. The aim of this study is to investigate long-term treatment patterns and adherence to LLD following hospitalization for a CHD event. (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Mediterranean diet for cardiovascular disease: an evidence mapping study
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that although recognizing the potential efficacy of MD in managing CVD, the quality of the methodology and the evidence for the outcome indicators remain unsatisfactory. To establish the true benefits of MD for CVD patients, future research should not only adhere to rigorous methodological requirements but also prioritize enhancing the quality of primary studies and conducting patient-centered meta-analyses.PMID:38600858 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000776 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)
