Demystifying Medicine 2019
Coronary heart disease is the most common cause of death worldwide, comprising nearly 16 percent of all deaths annual. While many risk factors are known — aging, smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise — in some cases, the etiology often remains a mystery. More worrisome is the increasing presence of the disease in younger populations, with injury to the inner layer of a coronary artery sometimes manifesting itself as early as childhood.
