Single ‐dose ibuprofen induced Stevens–Johnson Syndrome
We present a case of a 45-year-old woman who developed SJS following a single dose of ibuprofen. Despite its rarity, this case underscores the importance of heightened vigilance in healthcare and public awareness regarding the potential risks of commonly used medications. Prompt recognition of SJS symptoms and immediate medical intervention are crucial for patient outcomes. Healthcare providers should exercise caution when prescribing ibuprofen, particu larly in patients with a history of adverse drug reactions. This case emphasizes the need for ongoing monitoring, patient education, and informed decision-making to promote...

Peripheral ulcerative keratitis associated with tralokinumab therapy: a case report and review of IL-13 inhibitor-associated ocular surface disease
ConclusionThis case report documents ulcerative keratitis occurring in association with tralokinumab therapy for AD, which has previously been described with dupilumab but not tralokinumab. This report demonstrates the need for vigilant ocular surface monitoring for patients on tralokinumab and illustrates successful management and long-term control of adverse ocular events associated with this medication. Multiple ocular manifestations in a patient diagnosed with herpes zoster ophthalmicus: case report
Conclusions: Final visual acuity for the left eye remained 1 despite numerous manifestations of the disease. Abbreviations: VZV = Varicella-zoster virus, BCVA = best-corrected visual acuity, OU = both eyes, OD = right eye, OS = left eye, IOP = intraocular pressure, NCT = non-contact tonometer, ZVX = Zostavax vaccine.PMID:38617727 | PMC:PMC11007559 | DOI:10.22336/rjo.2024.16 (Source: Herpes)

Atopic Keratoconjunctivitis: Pathophysiology, Clinic, and Potential New Therapeutic Concepts
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.1055/a-2244-2885. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory skin disease with a bipolar age distribution in childhood, adolescence and middle adulthood. Up to 50% of AD patients show ocular involvement, which can be potentially sight threatening. Clinically, the majority of cases present with atopic blepharo(kerato)conjunctivitis or atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC); other clinical variants from this group of inflammatory ocular surface diseases are keratoconjunctivitis vernalis in childhood and adolescence and allergic conjunctivit...

Keratin Formed Bioadhesive Ophthalmic Gel for the Bacterial Conjunctivitis Treatment
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2024 Apr 8;25(4):77. doi: 10.1208/s12249-024-02772-3.ABSTRACTKeratin has the potential to function as the gel matrix in an ophthalmic formulation for the encapsulation of the macrolide antibiotic azithromycin. The quality of this formulation was thoroughly evaluated through various analyses, such as in vitro release assessment, rheological examination, intraocular retention studies in rabbits, assessment of bacteriostatic efficacy, and safety evaluations. It is worth mentioning that the gel demonstrated shear thinning properties and exhibited characteristics of an elastic solid, thereby confirming its st...

Bilateral Pattern Electroretinogram Abnormalities in Patients with Herpes Zoster Keratitis and Conjunctivitis
CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that VZV-affected eyes without central cornea involvement displayed reduced N95 amplitude and prolonged P50 peak time in bilateral eyes compared to the healthy controls. Larger studies are needed to further explore the effect of HZO on the electrophysiological response of the eye and the posterior segment.PMID:38587772 | DOI:10.1007/s40123-024-00928-9 (Source: Herpes)

Molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis of chikungunya virus among dengue-negative patients in Kolkata, India
by Rajendra Prasad Chatterjee, Aroni Chatterjee, Sabbir Ansari, Shilpa Chatterjee, Shyamalendu Chatterjee, Nilanjan Chakraborty Dengue and chikungunya are co-circulating vector-borne diseases that share a significant number of clinical symptoms. To identify variables to aid physicians in making rapid and effective diagnostic decisions, we performed molecular diagnosis of the chikungunya virus and examined the clinical mani festations of chikungunya cases to identify the prevalence among dengue-negative individuals in Kolkata. Dengue suspected patients’ samples were collected during January 2020—December 2021 and Enzym...

More Than Meets the Red Eye: The Necessity for a National Guideline for Pediatric Conjunctivitis
Infectious conjunctivitis (known in lay terms as “pink eye” or “red eye”) is among the most common illnesses of childhood, affecting 1 in 8 children annually in the United States (US),1 Ideally, the approach to pediatric conjunctivitis should encompass accurate diagnosis, determination of the optimal treatment, and appropriate guidance on return to daycare or school. Other causes of conjunctivitis (including trauma, allergy, contact lens overwear, chemical toxicity) must be excluded as they can present similarly. (Source: The Journal of Pediatrics)

Neuralgia in the occipital region associated with ipsilateral trigeminal herpes zoster: Three case reports
DISCUSSION: The trigemino-cervical complex has the potential to cause neuralgia in the occipital region, as referred pain, caused by trigeminal herpes zoster. These cases suggest that, even if conjunctivitis or reddish spots appear to be trivial in the trigeminal nerve territory, trigeminal herpes zoster should be considered when neuralgia occurs in the ipsilateral occipital region.PMID:38525807 | DOI:10.1111/head.14698 (Source: Headache)
