Fatal Human Neurologic Infection Caused by Pigeon Avian Paramyxovirus-1, Australia
We report a fatal case of neurologic disease in a 2-year-old immunocompromised child in Australia. Metagenomic sequencing and histopathology identified the causative agent as the pigeon variant of APMV-1. This diagnosis should be considered in neurologic conditions of undefined etiologies. Agnostic metagenomic sequencing methods are useful in such settings to direct diagnostic and therapeutic efforts.PMID:37987582 | DOI:10.3201/eid2912.230250 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

Modified lateral canthopexy with upper and lower blepharoplasties for aesthetic refinements: My personal technique
CONCLUSION: This method appears to be effective since it is simple, practicable, and capable of delivering positive functional and aesthetic effects with a minimum of side effects.PMID:37977931 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.11.017 (Source: Asian Journal of Surgery)

Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Current Aspects of Diagnosis and Therapy
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1055/a-2193-2658. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBacterial conjunctivitis is a leading cause of infectious conjunctivitis in children and second most common cause in adults. Although often self-limiting, it can lead to complications like corneal scarring and systemic infections in high-risk groups including newborns and immunocompromised patients. Thus, prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential for these vulnerable populations. Common bacterial causes are Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae in adults and Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis in childr...

Examining the Correlation between Allergic Conjunctivitis and Allergic Rhinitis
CONCLUSIONS: AC and AR share a common pathophysiological process and allergen profile, with the conjunctiva and nasal mucosa serving as sites of allergic reactions. This study suggests the integration of AC prevention and treatment into AR prevention strategies.PMID:37971456 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
