Monocular Painless Partial Vision Loss: Multipurpose Utility of Point-of-Care Ultrasound in the Emergency Department
Eye-related complaints are a common presentation in the emergency department (ED). The cases range from simple viral conjunctivitis to trauma-related eye injuries. One pathological condition that could lead to vision loss is retinal artery occlusion (RAO). Evaluation of a patient with an eye complaint requires thorough eye examination and, in certain instances, advanced imaging. Consultation with an ophthalmologist is also necessary for cases that require treatment recommendations and further testing. (Source: The Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Kawasaki Disease: Recent Diagnostics, Treatment, and Predictors for Treatment Failure and Coronary Artery Involvement
AbstractPurpose of ReviewKawasaki disease (KD) is a medium vessel vasculitis in pediatric patients with a predilection for coronary artery involvement. The disease can be complete or incomplete but generally consists of a fever longer than 5  days, bilateral conjunctivitis, rash, edema, cervical adenopathy, and mucosal involvement. Mainstay of therapy includes IV immunoglobulin and aspirin. The goal of this article is to identify recent research that focuses on the newest diagnostic tools, predictive factors for coronary involvement, a nd treatment failure, as well as the most recent literature on treatment.Recent Finding...

Covid-19 and the Eye
There is growing literature describing the ocular manifestations of Covid-19. Herein we assess published reviews, cross-sectional analyses, and clinical reports to summarize the ocular manifestations of the disease and available vaccines, identify the potential role of ocular transmission, and offer basic clinical guidance to healthcare providers. Ultimately, self-limiting conjunctivitis and conjunctival hyperemia are the most frequently reported ocular findings; several rarer entities may warrant targeted topical therapies. Paraneoplastic orbital myositis as a first manifestation of renal cell carcinoma
Orbit. 2023 Oct 14:1-5. doi: 10.1080/01676830.2023.2264916. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParaneoplastic syndromes (PNSs) are remote effects of the primary tumor on tissues and organs, not related to direct invasion or metastasis. Ophthalmological involvement has been reported in 0.01-0.1% cases of PNSs. It may present as retinopathy, optic neuritis, myasthenia-like syndromes, or orbital myositis (OM), among others. An 89-year-old male with bilateral ocular pain and chemosis, was given an initial diagnosis of bilateral acute conjunctivitis. After 5 days, the patient presented worsening of the pain and bilateral complete op...
