Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7909: Are There Lipid Membrane-Domain Subtypes in Neurons with Different Roles in Calcium Signaling?
z-Merino Lipid membrane nanodomains or lipid rafts are 10–200 nm diameter size cholesterol- and sphingolipid-enriched domains of the plasma membrane, gathering many proteins with different roles. Isolation and characterization of plasma membrane proteins by differential centrifugation and proteomic studies have revealed a remarkable diversity of proteins in these domains. The limited size of the lipid membrane nanodomain challenges the simple possibility that all of them can coexist within the same lipid membrane domain. As caveolin-1, flotillin isoforms and gangliosides are currently used as neuronal lip...

The ultrastructure of macaque mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus neurons
In this study, we explored the ultrastructure of macaque mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus neurons to determine the presence and nature of this synaptic input in a primate. We first confirmed the location of macaque mesencephalic trigeminal neurons by retrograde labeling from the masticatory muscles. Since the labeled neurons were by far the largest cells located at the edge of the periaqueductal gray, we could undertake sampling for electron microscopy based on soma size. Ultrastructurally, mesencephalic trigeminal neurons had very large somata with euchromatic nuclei that sometimes displayed deeply indented nuclear membra...

GSE248602 Next Generation Sequencing and Quantitative Analysis of mRNAs in Caenorhabditis elegans fbxl-5 Mutant Animals
Contributor : Robert H DowenSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Caenorhabditis elegansThe molecular mechanisms that govern the metabolic commitment to reproduction, which often occurs at the expense of the soma, remain poorly understood. We identified the C. elegans F-box protein FBXL-5 as a negative regulator of maternal provisioning of vitellogenin lipoproteins, which mediate the transfer of intestinal lipids to the germline. Mutations in fbxl-5 partially suppress the vitellogenesis defects observed in the heterochronic mutants lin-4 and lin-29, both of which ectopically express fbx...

Microglia-neuron interactions in prefrontal gray matter in schizophrenia: a postmortem ultrastructural morphometric study
This study addressed the question of whether the interaction between neurons and satellite microglia (SatMg) is abnormal in schizophrenia. SatMg-neuron communication at direct contacts between neuronal soma is essential for neuroplasticity as SatMg can regulate neuronal activity. A postmortem ultrastructural morphometric study was performed to investigate SatMg and adjacent neurons in layer 5 of the prefrontal cortex in 21 cases of schizophrenia and 20 healthy controls. Density of SatMg was significantly higher in the young schizophrenia group and in the group with illness duration  ≤ 26 years as compared to control...

Chaetocin-mediated SUV39H1 inhibition targets stemness and oncogenic networks of diffuse midline gliomas and synergizes with ONC201
CONCLUSIONS: Our studies reveal a therapeutic vulnerability of DIPG cells through targeting the SUV39H1-H3K9me3 pathway and compensatory signaling loops for treating this devastating disease. Combining SUV39H1-targeting chaetocin with other agents such as ONC201 may offer a new strategy for effective DIPG treatment.PMID:38011799 | DOI:10.1093/neuonc/noad222 (Source: Ann Oncol)
