Cause-specific mortality in COPD subpopulations: a cohort study of 339 647 people in England
Conclusion Poorer airflow limitation, worse functional status and exacerbations had substantial associations with risk of all-cause mortality. Differing results for CV and COPD-related mortality suggests interventions to prevent mortality may need to target particular characteristics or time points in the disease course. (Source: Thorax)

Combretum micranthum G. Don (Combretaceae): A Review on Traditional Uses, Phytochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology
Chem Biodivers. 2024 Feb 14:e202301606. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301606. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCombretum micranthum (Combretaceae) is a medicinal plant widely known and used in Africa to treat a variety of conditions such as diabetes, fever, coughs, bronchitis, diarrhea, pain, malaria and liver disorders, among others. Due to its wide traditional use, in this review, published scientific reports on its composition and pharmacological properties were explored by conducting a literature search of databases. To date, 155 organic compounds including 34 flavonoids, 16 phenolic acids, 14 alkaloids, 15 fatty acids, 14 terpeno...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 731: Machine-Learning-Based Classification Model to Address Diagnostic Challenges in Transbronchial Lung Biopsy
Conclusion: The machine-learning model developed has the potential to distinguish between benign and malignant conditions in TBLB samples excluding the presence or absence of tumor cells, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the burden of repeated sampling procedures for patients. Management Strategies for Pediatric Cases of Severe Plastic Bronchitis: Addressing Acute Respiratory Failure in the Context of Human Bocavirus Infection
This report aims to document the rescue and nursing experience in managing a pediatric patient presenting with severe plastic bronchitis accompanied by acute respiratory failure attributed to human bocavirus infection. Emergency bronchoscopy surgery was promptly and effectively performed to address the immediate medical needs. Subsequently, rigorous monitoring of pulmonary signs and optimized airway management were implemented to strengthen postoperative care. Proactive measures were taken to address airway reobstruction and hypercapnia promptly while maintaining active control over infections. (Source: The Journal for Nurse Practitioners)

Avian infectious bronchitis virus (AIBV) review by continent
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a positive-sense, single-stranded, enveloped RNA virus responsible for substantial economic losses to the poultry industry worldwide by causing a highly contagious respiratory disease. The virus can spread quickly through contact, contaminated equipment, aerosols, and personal-to-person contact. We highlight the prevalence and geographic distribution of all nine genotypes, as well as the relevant symptoms and economic impact, by extensively analyzing the current literature. Moreover, phylogenetic analysis was performed using Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis (MEGA-6), which provi...

Detection of multiple recombinations of avian coronavirus in South Korea by whole-genome analysis
In this study, complete genome sequences of 23 IBV isolates in Korea from 2010 to 2020 were obtained using next-generation sequencing, and their phylogenetic relationship and recombination events were analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis based on the S1 gene showed that all isolates belonged to the GI-19 lineage and were divided into five subgroups (KM91-like, K40/09-like, and QX-like II to IV). Among the 23 isolates, 14 recombinants were found, including frequent recombination between KM91-like and QX-like strains. In addition, it was observed that other lineages, such as GI-1, GI-13, and GI-16, were involved in recombination....
