Why does emphysema cause respiratory ALKALOSIS?
I get that in chronic bronchitis, the mucus plugs up the bronchioles and makes it hard for CO2 to get out, so PCO2 goes up and pH goes down. Since emphysema is also an obstructive lung disease, why does PCO2 not go up there as well? (Goljan pg 304) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will an Asthma Diagnosis Keep me out of MSSP?
I mentioned in my personal statement that I had "childhood asthma." I had a visit with my GP last year and asked them to re-evaluate my diagnosis - she stated that I do not have a current diagnosis of asthma. This is contrary to my pediatrician who had in my record for my whole life that I had asthma. I have not required an inhaler before/after exercise pretty much ever. I have used one PRN but those times were usually when I was also sick with something like bronchitis. I ran... Will an Asthma Diagnosis Keep me out of MSSP? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ever reported a pharmacy or pharmacist to a state board of pharmacy?
Just wondering if it is worth the trouble. Here is what happened. I had bronchitis last week, and decided to get my scripts filled at CVS (tussionex, benzonatate, zpak). Normally I go to Walgreens, but never been to CVS before so wanted to give it a try. They filled the scripts very fast I thought (10 minutes). I normally do not mind the waiting, but I guess that was a plus in comparison to my normal Walgreens. Anyway, I paid the tech and signed a log (not sure why, Walgreens never... How Bad Is Neuro In Comparison To Other Classes?
So, I'm in Neuro block right now and I'm just drained. It doesn't help that I currently have acute bronchitis by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. I just want to know if there are more interesting things to learn in medicine than these bs tracts with random anatomies. I did well in Anatomy despite me hating every second of it. I also seem to enjoy the clinical aspects of Neuro. However, the PhDs at my school really make me hate this subject to the bone. Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Could it be CF in my 14 yo?
My son is 14 years old, weighs 78 lbs and is 4'10". He has had a cough for 2 years now and asthma among other things have been ruled out. He has had pneumonia twice and bronchitis once in this time. He is currently under the care of an endocrinologist because of his growth issues. He is falling farther and farther behind. His latest labs show his FSH to be very low and his LH to be low but not out of range. His vitamin D level continues to stay low despite supplements for the last year. It is currently at 21. He has always struggled with constipation and very large BM's. As an infant he had the same cough he has now ...

Recently diagnosed at 31
Hi! My name is Krystin, I'm 31 with two kids and here's my story. December 2012, I was at the beach enjoying myself in a hot tub. Two days later, I started coughing. Productive coughing. I assumed it was bronchitis and went along with my life for 6 weeks assuming it would go away on its own and not wanting unnecessary antibiotics. I broke a rib coughing, so it forced me to the doctor. Diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis and sent home with antibiotics. Nothing. Called the doctor telling them the cough was still present. Stronger antibiotics. Nothing. New doctor, new visit and given 2 antibiotic injections in my booty, stero...

Hi All. Throwing this out there to see if anyone can help. Still no CF diagnoise.
Hi Everyone. Well, I had a ambry Pancreatitis Genetic panel done. Any one else, with pancritis problems, Cf etc, which know of theses mutations. G576A, (likely pathogenic) And R668C. (Variant of unknown Significance) Got as far as a CRMS Diagnose. Told neither of these are CF causing. I don't get this as I am still in limbo, The two high sweat test> 84, and 90. To make this short as I always write a book here, I do have good FVC. Low DLCO. (which I think is heart related) Chronic Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis, Allergies, Chronic Bronchitis, Failure to thrive, malnusorption disorder (most all my life) Chronic Pancri...

Atypical CF? Mild? Or maybe not?
Does anyone have of know what could possibly be synptoms of atypical or mild CF? My oldest son, who is about to be 7, has for all his life had repeats respitory infections. He has severe bronchitis at least two to three times a year, and always has a nasal infection. My other 4 never catch it either. He also has chronic constapation that he has had since a baby. It has gotten to the point where he has tears that bleed. He's also has really bad tooth decay, and has needed lots of cavities filled. Our pediatrician doesn't seem to be too concerned. My son was never tested for CF as a newborn because they didn't donthe testing...

Pseudomonas and Balancing Work & Treatment
Good morning. My 8 month old daughter had a cough for 5+ weeks and the CF clinic asked us to bring her in for a check. She dx as CRMS due to her mutations (DF508 and F1052V) and is tracked by our local CF clinic. F1052V is very rare and causes CF in some, and not in others. Her lungs sounded clear so the doctor told us to start CPT 2x/day to see if that helped. Her theory was that this wouldn't hurt her and COULD possibly help her. They did a chest xray which showed bronchitis of some sort but no pneumonia and the doc said her lungs sounded perfectly clear. Well...two days later I get a phone call from the nurse. M...
