Secondary hematological malignancies in patients with sarcoma: A single ‑center retrospective study
Oncol Lett. 2024 Mar 14;27(5):211. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14344. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTThe present retrospective study investigated the clinical features and prognosis of secondary hematological malignancies (SHMs) in patients with sarcoma at Korea Cancer Center Hospital (Seoul, South Korea). Patients who had been diagnosed with SHMs after having received treatment for sarcoma between January 2000 and May 2023 were enrolled. Clinical data were collected from the patients' medical records. Clinical characteristics were analyzed, including SHM incidence, type and prognosis. Of 2,953 patients with sarcoma, 18 (0.6%) were...

Comprehensive radiotherapy for pediatric Ewing Sarcoma: Outcomes of a prospective proton study
Patients with Ewing sarcoma (EWS) are treated with combination therapy, which includes radiation therapy (RT) as a treatment option for the primary tumor site (local control). Historically, the best local control (LC) outcomes have been achieved with surgery alone or combination of surgery with adjuvant RT for patients with high risk factors such as positive tumor margins after surgery or poor response to adjuvant/ induction chemotherapy. Definitive RT is often reserved for large tumors in anatomical locations where surgical resection is considered to be too morbid [1 –3]. (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology)

Cancer patterns in Arua district, Uganda: a hospital-based retrospective study
CONCLUSION: There is a high incidence of liver cancer in Arua district. The high levels of cervical, breast and oesophagus cancer were consistent with what is reported by the two PBCRs in Uganda. However, BL could be due to the presence of a BL treatment centre at Kuluva hospital in Arua. Cancer interventions in Arua should therefore be targeted towards liver, cervix, breast, and oesophagus cancer and furthering research on the reason for the high incidence of liver cancer.PMID:38566768 | PMC:PMC10984836 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1688 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

CircPVT1 promotes migration and invasion by regulating miR-490-5p/HAVCR2 axis in osteosarcoma cells
This study aims to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the involvement of circPVT1 in osteosarcoma cells. We quantified circPVT1 expression using qRT-PCR in both control and osteosarcoma cell lines. To investigate the roles of circPVT1, miR-490-5p and HAVCR2 in vitro, we separately conducted overexpression and inhibition experiments for circPVT1, miR-490-5p and HAVCR2 in HOS and U2OS cells. Cell migration was assessed through wound healing and transwell migration assays, and invasion was measured via the Matrigel invasion assay. To elucidate the regulatory mechanism of circPVT1 in osteosarcoma, a comprehensive appro...
