Lichen Sclerosus-Incidence and Comorbidity: A Nationwide Swedish Register Study
Conclusions: This study underscores the significantly increased association of various cancers and premalignant conditions in LS patients, highlighting the critical need for efficacious treatment and diligent follow-up. The association between LS and autoimmune diseases further necessitates comprehensive investigation to understand the underlying mechanisms and clinical management implications. Future research is essential to confirm these findings and elucidate the role of LS in cancer development.PMID:38792303 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13102761 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Pilot study for bladder cancer detection with volatile organic compounds using ion mobility spectrometry: a novel urine-based approach
CONCLUSION: VOC-based detection of bladder cancer is feasible. MCC/IMS is a suitable method for urine-based diagnosis and should be further validated. The molecular characteristics and metabolic background of the analytes require further workup.PMID:38795133 | DOI:10.1007/s00345-024-05047-5 (Source: Cancer Control)

Cancer Incidence Rates in the US in 2016-2020 with Respect to Solar UVB Doses, Diabetes and Obesity Prevalence, Lung Cancer Incidence Rates, and Alcohol Consumption: An Ecological Study
This article reports the results of an ecological study of cancer incidence rates by state in the US for the period 2016-2020. The goals of this study were to determine the extent to which solar UVB doses reduced cancer risk compared to findings reported in 2006 for cancer mortality rates for the periods 1950-1969 and 1970-1794 as well as cancer incidence rates for the period 1998-2002 and to determine which factors were recently associated with cancer risk. The cancer data for non-Hispanic white (European American) men and women were obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Indices were obtained for s...

Early experience with sequential intravesical gemcitabine and docetaxel for micropapillary variant non-muscle invasive bladder cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Gem/Doce with Val/Doce rescue appears to have activity against carefully selected non-muscle invasive MPUC with favorable histology. Larger prospective trials are needed to validate these results.PMID:38796357 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.05.006 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Predictive Factors for Major Complications and Urological Cancer Diagnosis in Older Adults (80 Years) Admitted to the Emergency Department for Hematuria
Conclusions: Hematuria is a frequent symptom in older adults admitted to the emergency department. While this is often associated with benign conditions, there are some risk factors for major complications and for urological cancer that must be taken into account to identify the patients who need further evaluation or prompt hospital admission.PMID:38792416 | PMC:PMC11122226 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13102874 (Source: Clinical Prostate Cancer)

Income Disparities in Survival and Receipt of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy and Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection for Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer
Conclusions: Even after controlling for clinicodemographic variables, income independently influenced the receipt of standard MIBC treatments and survival. Our findings identify an opportunity to improve the quality of care for lower-income MIBC patients through concerted efforts to regionalize multi-modal urologic oncology care.PMID:38785473 | DOI:10.3390/curroncol31050192 (Source: Current Oncology)
