Temporal arteritis presenting as third nerve palsy - a case report and review of literature
In this report, we describe the case of a patient presenting with pupil-sparing third nerve palsy, ultimately diagnosed with GCA, and successfully managed with steroids and tocilizumab. A lady in her 80s with past medical history of well-controlled hypertension, bladder cancer in remission, a twenty-pack year smoking history, cervical and lumbar spine stenosis, and recent immunizations presented with acute onset of right-sided pupil-sparing third nerve palsy. Labs were pertinent for an elevated ESR and CRP. Brain imaging was without acute abnormalities. A temporal artery biopsy established evidence of healed arteritis and ...

MRI assessment of seminal vesicle involvement by prostate cancer using T2 signal intensity and volume
CONCLUSION: While signal intensity measurements in T2-weighted images may provide insight into T3b disease, our findings suggest that this data alone is insufficient to reliably predict SVI, indicating the need for further investigation and complementary diagnostic approaches.PMID:38734785 | DOI:10.1007/s00261-024-04349-x (Source: Cancer Control)

The Efficacy of Dietary Intake, Supplementation, and Blood Concentrations of Carotenoids in Cancer Prevention: Insights from an Umbrella Meta-Analysis
Foods. 2024 Apr 25;13(9):1321. doi: 10.3390/foods13091321.ABSTRACTPrevious meta-analyses of multiple studies have suggested that dietary intake and blood concentrations of carotenoids, as well as dietary supplement of certain carotenoids, play a role in reducing the risk of cancer. However, the conclusions of these studies have been subject to controversy. We conducted an umbrella review of meta-analyses to comprehensively analyze and evaluate the evidence pertaining the association between carotenoids and cancer outcomes. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases of meta-analyses and syste...

Knockdown of iPLA < sub > 2 < /sub > γ enhances cisplatin-induced apoptosis by increasing ROS-dependent peroxidation of mitochondrial phospholipids in bladder cancer cells
Free Radic Biol Med. 2024 May 9:S0891-5849(24)00451-9. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2024.05.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCisplatin (CDDP) is a platinum-based drug with anti-cancer activity and is widely used as a standard therapy for bladder cancer. It is well known that CDDP causes cell death by increasing the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation, but the mechanism of its anti-cancer effects has not been fully elucidated. There are still some problems such as chemoresistance in CDDP therapy. In the present study, we found the expression of Ca2+-independent phospholipase A2γ (iPLA2γ), ...
