MRL Prostate GTV Focal Boost: Is Prep Relevant?
Delivery of a focal boost to the intraprostatic gross tumour volume (GTV) for prostate cancer patients has shown to improve biochemical disease-free survival and has been done via brachytherapy at our institution. However, brachytherapy has contraindications and patients may not want to undergo an invasive procedure. Onboard MR imaging enables visualization of gross disease and can guide treatment on a linear accelerator (linac). The purpose of this study was to describe the initial experience of delivering a focal boost to intraprostatic GTV(s) using MR-guidance on a 1.5T MR-Linac and determining the relevance of bladder ...

Deformable Contour Propagation of the Simultaneous-Integrated Boost Volume for Bladder Radiotherapy
Bladder cancer treatment involving whole-bladder irradiation and a simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) to the bladder tumor or the post-surgical tumor bed is currently being investigated. To improve precision, our institution has adopted the patient-specific planning target volume (PS-PTV) strategy, which requires manual delineation of bladder and post-surgical tumor bed on the first 4 Conebeam-CTs (CBCT). This process is time-consuming and increases workload. However, autosegmentation based on deformable image registration (DIR) between CBCT and CT may improve efficiency and reduce interobserver variability. (Source: Jour...

Cystectomy for bladder cancer in Sweden - short-term outcomes after centralization
CONCLUSION: After the centralization of the cystectomy-care in Sweden, older patients and individuals with more extensive comorbidity were offered RC whereas 90-day mortality and the proportion of patients subjected to reoperations within 90 days of surgery decreased without increasing waiting times.PMID:38685576 | DOI:10.2340/sju.v59.40120 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Urology)

Comprehensive analysis of perioperative hypotension in photodynamic diagnosis-assisted transurethral resection of bladder tumor with 5-aminolevulinic acid
CONCLUSIONS: Renal function impairment and the other adverse effects of 5-aminolevulinic acid may be risk factors for severe hypotension. Mild or moderate hypotension may be caused by general anesthesia and severe hypotension may be caused by spinal anesthesia. To elucidate specific risk factors, further case-control studies are warranted.PMID:38687138 | DOI:10.1111/iju.15477 (Source: Cancer Control)

Incidence and management of prostatic urethra recurrence in a cohort of 21 patients who received BCG induction for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: Patients with PU recurrences following intravesical BCG have a high-risk disease phenotype with a significant risk of recurrence. Conservative management may be appropriate for well-selected patients who do not desire a cystoprostatectomy.PMID:38688797 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.04.017 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Overexpressed KCNK1 regulates potassium channels affecting molecular mechanisms and biological pathways in bladder cancer
CONCLUSIONS: KCNK1 was significantly overexpressed in BC. A complex and sophisticated three-dimensional spatial transcriptional regulatory network existed in the KCNK1 TSS and promoted the upregulated of KCNK1 expression. The high expression of KCNK1 might be involved in the cell cycle, cellular metabolism, and tumour microenvironment through the regulation of potassium channels, and ultimately contributed to the deterioration of BC.PMID:38689322 | DOI:10.1186/s40001-024-01844-1 (Source: Cell Research)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 577: Comprehensive Bioinformatic Investigation of TP53 Dysregulation in Diverse Cancer Landscapes
ynski P53 overexpression plays a critical role in cancer pathogenesis by disrupting the intricate regulation of cellular proliferation. Despite its firmly established function as a tumor suppressor, elevated p53 levels can paradoxically contribute to tumorigenesis, influenced by factors such as exposure to carcinogens, genetic mutations, and viral infections. This phenomenon is observed across a spectrum of cancer types, including bladder (BLCA), ovarian (OV), cervical (CESC), cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL), colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBC), esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), head and neck squamou...
