A systematic review on antibiotic therapy of cutaneous bacillary angiomatosis not related to major immunocompromising conditions: from pathogenesis to treatment
Cutaneous bacillary angiomatosis (cBA) is a vascular proliferative disorder due to Bartonella spp. that mostly affects people living with HIV (PLWH), transplanted patients and those taking immunosuppressive drugs... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1654: Antimicrobial Activity and Phytochemical Characterization of Baccharis concava Pers., a Native Plant of the Central Chilean Coast
In conclusion, the extracts of B. concava showed strong antimicrobial activity, probably due to the presence of metabolites derived from phenolic acids, such as caffeoylquinic acid, and flavonoids, such as quercetin, which in turn could be responsible for helping with wound healing. In addition, the development of antimicrobial therapies based on the molecules found in B. concava could help to combat infection caused by pathogenic yeasts and Gram-positive bacteria, without affecting the Gram-negative microbiota. Diabetic Osteomyelitis: Oral vs Intravenous Antibiotics at a Single Level 1 Academic Medical Trauma Center
Residual osteomyelitis is a frequent problem following surgical intervention for diabetic foot infection. The current Infectious Disease Society of America guidelines recommend 4-6 weeks of initial intravenous antibiotics for treatment of residual osteomyelitis. However, recent literature suggests oral antibiotic therapy is not inferior to intravenous therapy. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate treatment success in 128 patients receiving oral versus intravenous antibiotics for residual osteomyelitis in the diabetic foot after amputation at a Level 1 academic medical trauma center. Prolonged suppressive antibiotic therapy for inferior vena cava filter infection following emphysematous pyelonephritis and cystitis: a case report
CONCLUSION: Infections of implanted devices, such as IVC filters, secondary to severe infections can cause persistent bacteremia. PSAT may be an alternative option to treat IVC filter infection, when the IVC filter is considered difficult to remove.PMID:38576969 | PMC:PMC10990323 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001886 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Can jaw bone healed from chronic sclerosing osteomyelitis be considered healthy when planning dental implants? Case report with 20-year follow-up
CONCLUSION: This case report presents the treatment history of this patient. With a longitudinal observation period of greater than 20 years, the results of this case demonstrate the successful treatment of bone with CO, CSO, and Corynebacterium spp. infection. Following the removal of infected bone, radical debridement, and long-term antibiotic therapy, bone health was restored.PMID:38576989 | PMC:PMC10990345 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001826 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Spondylodiscitis after sacral colpopexy: diagnose early to treat earlier
Int J Clin Exp Pathol. 2024 Mar 15;17(3):90-95. doi: 10.62347/RERC7901. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTSpondylodiscitis following sacral colpopexy for Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) represents a rare complication with severe consequences. Authors performed a literature search, from 2000 to 2022, to set a narrative review of literature. Spondylodiscitis is an uncommon but dangerous side effect of a routine surgical treatment that needs to be identified and treated right away to prevent worsening clinical consequences. Suboptimal dissection of the sacral promontory and/or site infection are associated with spondylodiscitis. When spon...
