Case Report: Extensive Osteomyelitis of the Craniofacial Skeleton Following Operative Fracture Treatment
AbstractOsteomyelitis is a bone inflammation caused by an infectious microorganism, which may lead to complete structure decay. Over time, along with the discovery and usage of powerful antibiotics, it became a rare occurrence in modern practice. In this paper, we will present a case of a patient with craniofacial osteomyelitis, which occurred as a complication of previous trauma and incomplete surgical treatment, due to lack of compliance. Chronic diseases in the non-cooperative patient led to the development of a severe clinical state. We believe that the existence of communication between defects on the anterior wall of...

Primary cutaneous nocardiosis of the ankle caused by N. brasiliensis: a case report
We present a 67-year-old woman who developed abscesseson the back of her right ankle after walking barefoot on soil. Cultures from the cutaneous lesions grewN. brasiliensis. Antibiotic therapy with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole given for a month provided near-complete resolution of her lesions. (Source: Infection)

Static Versus Articulating Spacer: Does Infectious Pathogen Type Affect Treatment Success?
CONCLUSION: The lack of a difference in failure-free survival and insufficient evidence of a difference in the association between spacer type and treatment failure by pathogen type suggests that infectious organism may not be an important consideration in the decision about spacer treatment type. Further studies should aim to elucidate which patient factors are the most influential in surgeon decision-making when choosing a spacer type in patients with PJI of the knee.Level of Evidence Level III, therapeutic study.PMID:38662933 | DOI:10.1097/CORR.0000000000003075 (Source: Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research)

Hepatic micro ‐abscesses as an unusual initial presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report
We report the case of a 27-year-old female who presented with persistent high-grade fever, bilateral exudative lymphocytic pleural effusion, hepatic micro-abscesses, anemia, and lymphopenia. Despite extensive investigations and antibiotic therapy, the patient's condition continued to worsen. The diagnosis of hepatic vasculitis, a rare manifestation of SLE, was ultimately made based on clinical suspicion, positive autoimmune markers, and negative septic workup. The patient responded well to high-dose corticosteroid therapy and intravenous immunoglobulin, with resolution of liver lesions and clinical improvement. Hepatic inv...

Loureirin A is a narrow-spectrum antimicrobial agent against < em > Helicobacter pylori < /em >
In this study, loureirin A (LrA), a traditional Chinese medicine monomer extracted from Sanguis Draconis flavones, was found to possess specific antibacterial activity against H. pylori without the bacteria displaying a tendency to develop resistance in vitro. LrA demonstrated a synergistic or additive effect when combined with omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) against H. pylori. The combination of LrA and omeprazole showed promising anti-H. pylori potential, exhibiting notable in vivo efficacy comparable to standard triple therapy in mouse models infected with both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant H. pylori strains. M...
