Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase expression in different subtypes of childhood B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Pathol Res Pract. 2024 Apr 2;256:155287. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2024.155287. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe lack of expression of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) is frequently associated with KMT2A-rearranged subtype of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). However, this association has not been investigated extensively in the Asian population. A retrospective analysis of TdT expression in pediatric B-cell ALL (B-ALL) was performed in patients treated using the Taiwan Pediatric Oncology Group (TPOG) ALL 2002 and 2013 protocols. Among the 331 patients with B-ALL, 12 patients showed TdT negativity at initi...

Chromatin and aberrant enhancer activity in KMT2A rearranged acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Curr Opin Genet Dev. 2024 Apr 4;86:102191. doi: 10.1016/j.gde.2024.102191. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo make a multicellular organism, genes need to be transcribed at the right developmental stages and in the right tissues. DNA sequences termed 'enhancers' are crucial to achieve this. Despite concerted efforts, the exact mechanisms of enhancer activity remain elusive. Mixed lineage leukemia (MLL or KMT2A) rearrangements (MLLr), commonly observed in cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia, produce novel in-frame fusion proteins. Recent work has shown that the MLL-AF4 fusion protein drives ...

Epidemiological characteristics and influencing factors of acute leukemia in children and adolescents and adults: a large population-based study
CONCLUSION: From 2000 to 2016, the incidence rates of AL in children and adolescents and adults were increasing. Children and adolescents with AL had significantly better OS than adults with AL, and OS declined with age in both children and adolescents and adults with ALL, AML and AUL.PMID:38578123 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2024.2327916 (Source: Hematology)

TCR αβ-depleted hematopoietic stem cell transplant and third-party CD45RA+ depleted adoptive cell therapy for treatment of post-transplant parvovirus B19 aplastic crisis
CD19 and CD22-targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy bridged to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has emerged as an effective therapeutic approach for refractory/relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia [1,2]. However, despite successful therapy, patients remain vulnerable to viral infections caused by prolonged immune system deficiency. Human parvovirus (HPV) B19 infection is among the frequently encountered viral infections post-transplantation. Effective treatment for persistent HPV B19 infection in immunocompromised patients has yet to be established. (Source: International Journal of Infectious Diseases)

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia with atypical intracytoplasmic inclusions in the blasts
This study highlights the diagnostic potential of flow cytometry in identifying T-ALL, allowing for a more comprehensive evaluation of diagnostic characteristics. The study demonstrates that flow cytometry can significantly enhance the diagnosis of T-ALL by offering a more accurate and efficient alternative to traditional hematopathological examination. Simultaneous evaluation of a wide range of diagnostic characteristics is made possible by this method, thereby improving our ability to detect and differentiate T-cell disorders like T-ALL. CD7, Cy CD3, CD5, CD13, CD38, CD117, and CD45 are identified as reliable indicators ...

Honokiol induces apoptosis and autophagy in dexamethasone-resistant T-acute lymphoblastic leukemia CEM-C1 cells
Conclusion: The combination of honokiol and DEX were better than DEX alone in DEX-resistant CEM-C1 cell lines. Honokiol may regulate T-ALL-related dexamethasone resistance by affecting c-Myc.PMID:38573223 | DOI:10.1080/16078454.2024.2337307 (Source: Hematology)
