Podcast: How to Change Your Psychological Identity

We all know that addiction, severe depression, and other conditions change our personality. What few know, however, is just how deeply ingrained that change can be, and how difficult (and scary) it can be to try to become “ourselves” again. In this episode, we examine such changes through the experiences of our guest, who overcame depression and addiction, and now helps others do the same. Subscribe to Our Show! CONCLUSION: All of these drugs, if accepted by the patient, can also have an additional, beneficial placebo effect, with the patient calming down more rapidly than could be explained on pharmacological grounds alone. It is, therefore, important in emergencies (as at other times) for the patient to be involved in treatment decisions to the greatest possible extent. PMID: 31431244 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSION: This first randomized resistance training trial in pancreatic cancer patients indicated clinically relevant improve- ments in QoL after 3 but not after 6 months. Given the severity of pancreatic cancer, exercise recommendations may already commence at surgery. PMID: 31431236 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSION: Patients with IBS in Germany are likely not receiving sufficient diag- nostic evaluation in conformity with the relevant guidelines. The high prevalence of comorbid mental disorders and other pain syndromes implies that the complaints of patients with IBS need to be more comprehensively evaluated and treated. Publication date: 1 October 2019Source: Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, Volume 297Author(s): Weina Liu, Xinwei Yang, Youtian Niu, Haoran SunAbstractIn this paper, a sub-wavelength resonance sensor is proposed to microwave detection applications. A meta-material element—multiple split ring resonators (MSRR) is used to improve the sensitivity of the sensor. Therefore, the sensor is based on micro-strip technology and consists of a micro-strip and a MSRR. It is observed that the strongest electric field of the sensor can achieve to 105 V/m. So the sensor is very sensitive to capture changes of dielectric signals. S...

The characterization of the prepared catalyst was carried out using XRD, EDX, FT IR, BET, ICP, Raman, DRS, SEM and XPS techniques. The density functional theory (DFT) was used in order to find the most stable position of the vanadium of metallated UiO-66(Zr). It was found that UiO-66(Zr)-V has been generated via metalation of V(V) ions with two OH groups of Zr-based nodes. The ...

BattenAbstractThe synthesis, characterizations and crystal structures for [Cu(ipnm)(hmpH)] (1), mixed-valent tetranuclear [MnII2MnIII2(dcnm)2(hmp)6Cl2] (2) and the homo-valent hexanuclear [FeIII6(dcnm)6(hmp)8O2] (3), (where ipnm = imido[cyano (picolinoyl)methyl]nitrosomethanide, hmpH = 2-hydroxymethylpyridine; dcnm = dicyanonitrosomethanide) are reported. The formation of new dianionic ligand, ipnm which is also an imide derivative, represents the scarce example of metal-mediated in-situ deh...

Ethylene glycol (EG) and ionic liquid 1,3-dimethylimidazolium dimethyl phosphate ([Mmim] [DMP]) were screened as entrainers for the extractive distillation process. Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium data of DIPE + IPA + EG and DIPE + IPA + [Mmim] [DMP] was measured through experiment. The NRTL model was applied to correlate...

SamarAbstractExtensive degeneration of articular cartilage (AC) is a primary event in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) and other types of joint and bone inflammation. OA results in the loss of joint function, usually accompanied by severe pain, and are the most common type of arthritis, affecting more than 10% of adults. The characteristic signs of OA are progressive cartilage destruction and, eventually, complete loss of chondrocytes. A key enzyme responsible for these degenerative chan...

Here, we fabricated novel fluorescent aerogels with tunable emission by covalently binding environmentally-friendly ZnS(CuInS2)/ZnS core-shell quantum dots along the nanofibrillar BC. A new ligand of 3-(mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysila...
