Evaluation of the impact of rifampicin on the plasma concentration of linezolid in tuberculosis co-infected patients
Linezolid combined with rifampicin has shown excellent clinical outcomes against infection by multi-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. However, several studies have indicated that rifampicin reduces the plasma concentration of linezolid in patients with severe infection. Linezolid has been recommended for the treatment of patients with multidrug-resistant or extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis. However, studies on the interaction between linezolid and rifampicin in patients suffering from tuberculosis with infection are lacking. We evaluated the interaction between linezolid and rifampicin based on therapeutic drug moni...

Treatment of MDR, pre-XDR, XDR and rifampicin resistant tuberculosis or in case of intolerance to at least rifampicin in Austria, Germany and Switzerland - Amendment dated 19.09.2023 to the Sk2-Guideline: Tuberculosis in adulthood of the German Central Committee against Tuberculosis (DZK) on behalf of the German Respiratory Society (DGP)
Pneumologie. 2023 Nov 6. doi: 10.1055/a-2182-1609. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn December 2022, based on the assessment of new evidence, the World Health Organization (WHO) updated its guidelines for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). The evaluation of both, these recommendations, and the latest study data, makes it necessary to update the existing guidelines on the treatment of at least rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis for the German-speaking region, hereby replacing the respective chapters. A shortened MDR-TB treatment of at least 6 month using the fixed and non-modifiable drug combination of bedaquil...

Antibiotic use in pediatric acute care hospitals: an analysis of antibiotic consumption data from Germany, 2013 –2020
ConclusionSignificant heterogeneity in ACD and prescription of different antibiotic classes as well as high prescription rates for cephalosporins and an increased use of reserve antibiotics indicate improvable antibiotic prescribing quality. AMS programs should urgently prioritize these issues to reduce antimicrobial resistance. (Source: Infection)

Epidemiology of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria in Tuberculosis suspects, Southwest of China, 2017-2022
ConclusionThe NTM isolation rate in Southwest China has risen in recent years, primarily among elderly patients with a high HIV co-infection rate. The main NTM isolates were MAC and M. chelonae/M. abscessus. Amikacin, moxifloxacin, clarithromycin, and linezolid exhibited strong antibacterial activity against SGM, while amikacin and linezolid displayed relatively better antibacterial activity against RGM. The prevalence of NTM infection may be positively associated with regional economic development and health conditions. (Source: Frontiers in cellular and infection microbiology)

Prevalence and antibacterial resistance patterns of uropathogenic staphylococci in Casablanca, Morocco
Conclusions: The prevalence and antibacterial resistance patterns of uropathogenic staphylococci in this study, with a high percentage of methicillin resistance, require careful consideration of antimicrobial therapy for staphylococcal UTIs. Hybrid surgical treatment of a complicated intralobar sequestration in a young adult.
Conclusion: To our knowledge this is the first published case report of an ILS receiving direct supply by four aberrant arteries. It supports emerging cases demonstrating accumulating benefits and improved outcomes of endoluminal aortic stenting followed by surgery in selected ILS patient population. Programmatic management of bedaquiline-pretomanid-linezolid regimens in Georgia.
Conclusion: BPaL regimens showed excellent efficacy and good safety in program settings in Georgia. Urgent need to develop rapid tests for new drugs to avoid delaying adequate treatment. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Real-life experience using intravenous Fosfomycin in patients with Cystic Fibrosis and non-Cystic Fibrosis bronchiectasis
Conclusions: ivFO proved to be effective in PEx in pwCF and pwNCFB even after repeated courses. Treatment was well tolerated, with fewer side effects than in previous literature, despite an older population. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Frequency of serious adverse events on therapy with modified fully oral shorter treatment regimens (mSTR) for MDR/RR-TB
Conclusion: SAE occur during mSTR, but rarely lead to treatment discontinuation. Proper SAE monitoring and management are essential for any TB response. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Beta-lactamase activity is a biomarker for the prediction of the efficacy of antimicrobial therapy.
Conclusion: The conclusion argues for the necessity of determining the level of beta-lactamase activity in biological substrates in order to predict the efficacy of successful treatment with first-line BLA within the framework of evidence-based medicine. The evaluation of the BLA level will allow for a reduction of up to 30% in the unjustified use of BLAs. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)
