Gene expression profiling of vitamin D metabolism enzymes in leukemia and lymphoma patients: molecular aspect interplay of VDR, CYP2R1, and CYP24A1
CONCLUSION: The study revealed a noteworthy difference in VDR protein levels between men and women. The highest mean CYP24A1 protein levels were observed in the age group > 60 years. This study found a significant, moderately positive correlation between VDR protein levels and CYP24A1 protein levels in the male and vitamin D sufficiency groups. In addition, a significant positive correlation was found between VDR mRNA levels and CYP2R1 mRNA levels, VDR mRNA levels and CYP2R1 mRNA levels, and CYP2R1 mRNA levels and CYP24A1 mRNA levels. However, the expression of these genes does not correlate with the protein levels of i...

Differential effects of cholecalciferol and calcitriol on muscle proteolysis and oxidative stress in angiotensin II ‐induced C2C12 myotube atrophy
Cholecalciferol exhibited beneficial roles, whereas calcitriol possessed the negative impact on skeletal muscle proteostasis in angiotensin II-induced muscle atrophy. AbstractRenin –angiotensin system activation contributes to skeletal muscle atrophy in aging individuals with chronic diseases. We aimed to explore the effects of cholecalciferol (VD3) and calcitriol (1,25VD3) on signaling of muscle proteolysis and oxidative stress in myotubes challenged with angiotensin II (AII). The mouse C2C12 myotubes were assigned to vehicle, AII, AII  + VD3, AII  + 1,25VD3, and AII  + losartan groups. The expression levels...

Impact of supplementation with iron-folic acid (IFA) and vitamin D3 compared with IFA alone on haemoglobin levels in elderly people with mild-to-moderate anaemia: protocol for the double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled Iron and vitamin D trial in Elderly Anemia (IDEA)
This study is a community-based, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised trial. The study will be done in the Kalyani municipality area. Individuals aged ≥60 years with mild-to-moderate anaemia and normal vitamin D3 levels will be randomised into the intervention (IFA and vitamin D3 supplementation) group or the control group (IFA and olive oil as placebo). All medications will be self-administered. Follow-up will be done on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. The calculated sample size is 150 in each arm. Block randomisation will be done. The primary outcome is change in haemoglobin levels from baseline to 12 weeks. Seco...

Experimental and new investigational drugs for the treatment of uterine fibroids
Expert Opin Investig Drugs. 2024 Apr 15. doi: 10.1080/13543784.2024.2343786. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Uterine fibroids, the most prevalent benign tumors among reproductive-age women, pose treatment challenges that range from surgical interventions to medical therapies for symptom control. Progestins and estroprogestins effectively manage uterine bleeding by suppressing dysfunctional endometrium over fibroids. While GnRH agonists represent a crucial milestone in symptom treatment, their prolonged use results in menopausal-like symptoms and irreversible bone mineral density loss. Advancements in understand...

Delving the vitamin D receptor variation and expression profiles in the context of type 2 diabetes among families
CONCLUSION: A linkage was found among the FDRs with probands. Variation in the gene VDR at loci rs731236 and rs2228570 was associated with familial T2D. However further research is required to explore more genetic factors that could influence T2D risks in families.PMID:38622480 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09387-8 (Source: Molecular Biology Reports)
