Effects of VDR and CYP24A1 gene polymorphisms on the outcome of supraglottic larynx cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This study has demonstrated the possible effects of VDR rs731236 SNP on the locoregional recurrence and prognosis of supraglottic larynx cancer.PMID:38567579 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35720 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

The Critical Role of Intracellular Bacterial Communities in Uncomplicated Recurrent Urinary Cystitis: A Comprehensive Review of Detection Methods and Diagnostic Potential
Int Neurourol J. 2024 Mar;28(1):4-10. doi: 10.5213/inj.2448066.033. Epub 2024 Mar 31.ABSTRACTUrinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections worldwide and are particularly prevalent in women. Recurrent UTIs significantly diminish quality of life due to their symptoms and frequent relapses. Patients often experience immediate relapse following slightly strenuous activities or intense psychological stress. In this review, we explore why infections persist despite the advent of various treatments and suggest strategies to manage recurrent cystitis by targeting the mechanisms of adhesion and infe...

Heterogeneity and high prevalence of bone manifestations, and bone mineral density in congenital generalized lipodystrophy subtypes 1 and 2
ConclusionBone manifestations are prevalent, heterogeneous, and silent in CGL1 and CGL2. Osteolytic lesions are the most common, followed by osteosclerosis and pseudo-osteopoikilosis. Bone mass is high in most cases. There was no pain complaint related to bone lesions. Thus, systematic assessment of bone manifestations in CGL is essential. Studies are needed to better understand its pathogenesis and clinical consequences. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Low plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels are not associated with a high risk of recurrent falls in community-dwelling Japanese adults: the Murakami cohort study
ConclusionLow plasma 25(OH)D levels are not associated with a high risk of recurrent falls in middle-aged and older people. Further longitudinal studies will be needed to confirm our findings in other populations. (Source: Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery)

Does native vitamin D, or active vitamin D modulate the neutralising antibody responses to COVID-19 vaccination in haemodialysis patients?
CONCLUSIONS: The response to COVID-19 vaccination was reduced in our elderly haemodialysis patients compared to younger less frail patients, however there was no overall demonstrable effect of either 25-Vitamin D3 levels or the prescription of activated forms of Vitamin D on the immune response following vaccination against COVID-19, unless patients had previously tested positive for COVID-19.PMID:38561893 | DOI:10.1177/03913988241241204 (Source: The International Journal of Artificial Organs)
