Complete investigations (autopsy, toxicology, and histology) in a death due to apixaban overdose
AbstractThe dead body of a 54-year-old man was found at home by his partner. He was off work due to depression. A letter with suicidal intention was present on the scene. He was known to be a heavy drinker, and near the body, an empty bottle of whisky was found. In addition, 2 empty blisters of Eliquis (apixaban) 5 mg, corresponding to 40 tablets, were identified. Histology showed hematomas of calyces and renal pelvis and in the liver, several are...

Circulating acyl-CoA-binding protein/diazepam-binding inhibitor in gestational diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: Circulating ACBP is not a marker of GDM status, but ACBP is decreased during pregnancy, irrespective of GDM status. Furthermore, ACBP is related to beta cell function and renal markers in women after pregnancy.PMID:37872629 | DOI:10.1186/s12958-023-01152-z (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Circulating acyl-CoA-binding protein/diazepam-binding inhibitor in gestational diabetes mellitus
Acyl-CoA-binding protein (ACBP)/diazepam-binding inhibitor has recently been characterized as an endocrine factor affecting energy balance and lipid metabolism. However, regulation of ACBP in women with gestat... (Source: Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology)

Valerenic acid reduces anxiety-like behavior in young adult, female (C57BL/6J) mice
Behav Brain Res. 2023 Oct 16:114717. doi: 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114717. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracts from the plant Valeriana officinalis are marketed as an herbal remedy to treat anxiety and insomnia. Valerenic acid (VA) is a major chemical component of Valeriana extracts. To date, there is relatively little information about how VA affects behavior. The purpose of these experiments was to (1) test whether administration of VA induces measurable changes in anxiety-like, depression-like, or locomotor behaviors; (2) determine whether the effects of VA on behavior are dose-dependent; and (3) compare the effects of VA ...
