When the fever will not stop, stop the pills! A case report
CONCLUSION: Antipsychotic agents are commonly employed to manage behavioral changes linked to various disorders. However, their severe side effects necessitate a high degree of vigilance, the cessation of all medications, and the implementation of supportive care measures. A prompt and accurate diagnosis of NMS is crucial to alleviating the severe, prolonged morbidity and potential mortality associated with this syndrome.PMID:38055420 | PMC:PMC10703491 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2022.0401.R1.13032023 (Source: Sao Paulo Medical Journal)

Cenobamate enhances the anticonvulsant effect of other antiseizure medications in the DBA/2 mouse model of reflex epilepsy
This study aimed to detect the role of CNB on generalized seizures using the DBA/2 mouse model. We have also studied the effects of an adjunctive CNB treatment on the antiseizure properties of some ASMs against reflex seizures. The effects of this adjunctive treatment on motor performance, body temperature, and brain levels of ASMs were also evaluated. CNB was able to antagonize seizures in DBA/2 mice. CNB, at 5 mg/kg, enhanced the antiseizure activity of ASMs, such as diazepam, clobazam, levetiracetam, perampanel, phenobarbital, topiramate, and valproate. No synergistic effects were observed when CNB was co-administered w...

Pharmacological treatments in panic disorder in adults: a network meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In terms of efficacy, SSRIs, SNRIs (venlafaxine), TCAs, MAOIs and BDZs may be effective, with little difference between classes. However, it is important to note that the reliability of these findings may be limited due to the overall low quality of the studies, with all having unclear or high risk of bias across multiple domains. Within classes, some differences emerged. For example, amongst the SSRIs paroxetine and fluoxetine seem to have stronger evidence of efficacy than sertraline. Benzodiazepines appear to have a small but significant advantage in terms of tolerability (incidence of dropouts) over other ...

Lippia origanoides essential oil possesses anticonvulsant effect in pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures in rats: a behavioral, electroencephalographic, and electromyographic study
Epilepsy is a neuronal disorder characterized by abnormal excitability of the brain, leading to seizures. Only around 66% of the epileptic patients respond adequately to treatment with existing conventional anticonvulsants, making it necessary to investigate new antiepileptic drugs. The growing research into natural products and their pharmacological properties has become increasingly promising, particularly in the study of essential oils, which are already widely used in popular culture for treating various diseases. The present study evaluated the anticonvulsant effects of Lippia origanoides essential oil (LOEO) (100 mg...

Combination of multivariate data analysis and mixing modelling to assess tracer potential of contaminants of emerging concern in aquifers
In this study, we present an approach that incorporates multivariate statistical analysis (principal component analysis (PCA) and Kohonen's Self-Organizing Map method (SOM)) and mixing modelling to identify the most suitable CECs to be employed as anthropogenic tracers. The study area is located in the Besòs River Delta (Barcelona, NE Spain) and represents the highly mixed aquifer system. A one-year monthly based monitoring campaign was performed to collect the information about the concentrations of 105 CECs as well as major and minor ions in the river and along the groundwater flow. The dimensionality of the obtained da...
