"Decoding inflammation: glycoprotein a repetition predominant, microRNA-142-3-p, and metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1: as novel inflammatory biomarkers of inflammatory bowel disease"
CONCLUSIONS: Dysregulation of GARP, MALAT1, and miR-142-3p likely contributes to inflammation in IBD by reducing TGF-β. MALAT1 is linked to smoking and age-related changes. These genes have potential as diagnostic markers or therapeutic targets for personalized IBD treatment.PMID:38598005 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09475-9 (Source: Cancer Control)

Are we ready to use new endoscopic scores for ulcerative colitis?
World J Gastroenterol. 2024 Mar 14;30(10):1466-1469. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v30.i10.1466.ABSTRACTFor ulcerative colitis (UC), the variability in inflammatory activity along the colon poses a challenge in management. The focus on achieving endoscopic healing in UC is evident, where the UC Endoscopic Index of Severity and Mayo Endoscopic Subscore are commonly used for evaluation. However, these indices primarily consider the most severely affected region. Liu et al recent study validates the Toronto Inflammatory Bowel Disease Global Endoscopic Reporting (TIGER) score offering a comprehensive assessment of inflammatory activity acr...

Alkaline sphingomyelinase deficiency impairs intestinal mucosal barrier integrity and reduces antioxidant capacity in dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis
CONCLUSION: Alk-SMase regulates the stability of the intestinal mucosal barrier and enhances antioxidant activity through the Nrf2 signaling pathway.PMID:38596488 | PMC:PMC11000083 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i10.1405 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology : WJG)

Safety and Efficacy of Inpatient Infliximab Rescue Therapy for Acute Crohn's Disease Flares
CONCLUSION: Inpatient rescue infliximab is safe for treating acute Crohn's disease flare in addition to standard steroid therapy. The majority of patients hospitalized with Crohn's flare requiring rescue infliximab avoided surgery with low postoperative and medication-related complications. More research is needed to clarify the optimal rescue infliximab therapy dosage.PMID:38597300 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241246160 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Involvement of gut microbiota recovery and autophagy induction in Youhua Kuijie Formula's protection against experimental ulcerative colitis
Exp Anim. 2024 Apr 9. doi: 10.1538/expanim.23-0166. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUlcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by overactive inflammatory response, impaired intestinal mucosal barrier and disrupted gut microbiota. Youhua Kuijie formula is a classic empirical prescription based on the pathogenesis of UC. The present study was designed to verify the protective effect of Youhua Kuijie Formula on DSS-induced UC in mice and uncover the related mechanism. Youhua Kuijie Formula were orally administrated to UC mice induced by DSS dissolved in drinking water for ten days. The protective effect of Youhua Kuijie Formula w...
