Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 586: Spectroscopic and Antibacterial Properties of CuONPs from Orange, Lemon and Tangerine Peel Extracts: Potential for Combating Bacterial Resistance
In this study, different citrus peel extracts obtained with the solvents acetone and distilled water were used to synthesize copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs). The nanoparticles were characterized using cyclic voltammetry, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The absorption spectrum of CuONPs prepared with acetone exhibited characteristic peaks at the wavelengths between 280–293 nm, while those with distilled water had peaks at 290 nm. The ac...

Genes, Vol. 12, Pages 59: CRISPR/Cas9 Induced Somatic Recombination at the CRTISO Locus in Tomato
aham A. Levy Homologous recombination (HR) in somatic cells is not as well understood as meiotic recombination and is thought to be rare. In a previous study, we showed that Inter-Homologous Somatic Recombination (IHSR) can be achieved by targeted induction of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). Here, we designed a novel IHSR assay to investigate this phenomenon in greater depth. We utilized F1 hybrids from divergent parental lines, each with a different mutation at the Carotenoid isomerase (CRTISO) locus. IHSR events, namely crossover or gene conversion (GC), between the two CRTISO mutant alleles (tangerine color) can re...

Pdel, Encoding a Low-Affinity cAMP Phosphodiesterase, Regulates Conidiation and Pathogenesis in Alternaria alternata Tangerine Pathotype
In this study, we used a gene deletion and complementary strategy to characterize the functions of AaPdel and AaPdeh genes, which encoded low-affinity PDEs (Pdel) and high-affinity PDEs (Pdeh), respectively, in Alternaria alternata. AaPdel, but not AaPdeh, was found to be a key regulator in conidiation and pathogenesis in A. alternata. ΔAaPdel showed defects in conidiation, producing approximately 65% reduced conidiation and forming lowly pigmented aberrant structures. In response to osmotic stress, ΔAaPdel was more sensitive to non-ionic osmotic stress than ionic osmotic stress. Moreover, AaPdel deletion mutants had def...

Molecules, Vol. 25, Pages 4865: Effects of Tangerine Essential Oil on Brain Waves, Moods, and Sleep Onset Latency
psorn Sattayakhom Tangerine (Citrus tangerina) is one of the most important crops of Thailand with a total harvest that exceeds 100,000 tons. Citrus essential oils are widely used as aromatherapy and medicinal agents. The effect of tangerine essential oil on human brain waves and sleep activity has not been reported. In the present study, we therefore evaluated these effects of tangerine essential oil by measurement of electroencephalography (EEG) activity with 32 channel platforms according to the international 10–20 system in 10 male and 10 female subjects. Then the sleep onset latency was studied to fu...

Occurrence, temporal variation, quality and safety assessment of pesticide residues on citrus fruits in China.
Abstract Citrus is highly consumed in China and considered a major source of pesticide carrier in human diet. In this paper, pesticide residues in mandarins, tangerines and oranges from China were evaluated, as well as the quality and long-term dietary risks for the Chinese consumers. Temporal variations for eight MRL non-compliant pesticides were also investigated. 106 pesticides were analyzed using QuEChERS procedure and UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS and GC methods. Forty different pesticides were detected in 86% of the 2922 samples from 2013 to 2018. Chlorpyrifos was the most frequently detected pesticide with a de...

Activated carbon derived from waste tangerine seed for the high-performance adsorption of carbamate pesticides from water and plant.
Abstract This research presents the tangerine seed activated carbon (TSAC), obtained from food waste (tangerine seed) by one-step pyrolysis method and applied to remove carbamate pesticides (CMs) from complex solutions. The effects of carbonization temperature and time on adsorption performance were studied. Structural properties of TSAC were determined by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer, X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and nitrogen adsorption/desorption methods and compared with that of tangerine seed. The TSAC exhibited a specific surface area of 659.6...
