What constitutes breast-related quality of life? A comparison of normative scores of two BREAST-Q modules
ConclusionsThe results suggest that different modules cannot be used to compare different patient groups. This begs the question if the time has come for a comprehensive pre-operative BREAST-Q domains that measure breast-related quality of life irrespective of any specific breast-conditions. The difference between version 1.0 and 2.0 of BREAST-Q, might lead to difficulty when results from different studies are compared.Level of EvidenceNot ratable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Neurological conditions and subsequent divorce risk in the Nordic countries: the importance of gender and both spouses education
Conclusions Despite some variation by educational resources and country context, the results suggest that the social consequences of illness are noticeable even in Nordic welfare states, with the husband’s illness being at least as important as the wife’s. Embodiment of discrimination: a cross-sectional study of threats, humiliating treatment and ethnic discrimination in relation to somatic health complaints among Sami in Sweden
Conclusions This study has shown a strong relationship between different expressions of perceived ethnic discrimination and a series of somatic complaints among the Sámi in Sweden. Efforts to alleviate interpersonal and institutional discrimination against the Sámi would contribute to improve their health. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Spatial ecology of moose in Sweden: Combined Sr-O-C isotope analyses of bone and antler
by Elena Armaroli, Federico Lugli, Anna Cipriani, Thomas T ütken The study of spatial (paleo)ecology in mammals is critical to understand how animals adapt to and exploit their environment. In this work we analysed the87Sr/86Sr, δ18O and δ13C isotope composition of 65 moose bone and antler samples from Sweden from wild-shot individuals dated between 1800 and 1994 to study moose mobility and feeding behaviour for (paleo)ecological applications. Sr data were compared with isoscapes of the Scandinavian region, builtad-hoc during this study, to understand how moose utilise the landscape in Northern Europe. The87Sr/86Sr iso...

The prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in patients with spondyloarthritis compared to the general population in the southernmost region of Sweden: a case –control study
AbstractSpondyloarthritis (SpA) has been associated with comorbidities, e.g., cardiovascular disease. However, little is known about the relation between SpA and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The aim of the study was to compare the prevalence of COPD in SpA to the general population. Patients with prevalent SpA in Sk åne, Sweden, on December 31, 2018, were identified based on diagnostic codes in a regional register on primary care, secondary outpatient care and inpatient care. Population-based controls (5 per SpA case) were matched for age, sex and municipality. The base case definition for COPD required a...

Associations Between HbA1c and Glucose Time in Range Using Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Type 1 Diabetes: Cross-Sectional Population-Based Study
ConclusionsThis descriptive study demonstrates that the degree of association between HbA1c and new and readily available CGM-derived metrics, i.e., time in range (TIR), time above range (TAR), and CGM mean glucose, is robust in assessing the management of individuals with type 1 diabetes in clinical settings. Metrics from CGM that pertain to variability and hypoglycemia exhibit only weak correlations with HbA1c. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Study Finds No Link Between Acetaminophen Use During Pregnancy And Autism, ADHD Risk
Children exposed to acetaminophen in the womb do not appear to have an increased risk of autism or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to a studypublished today inJAMA. While a broad analysis of Swedish families found a slightly increased rate of these disorders in children exposed to acetaminophen in the womb, the researchers found no evidence acetaminophen was responsible when factoring in genetic or family influence.“Results of this study indicate that the association between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders is a noncausal association.,” wrote Viktor H. Ahlqv...

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on lymphoma incidence and short-term survival  - a Swedish Lymphoma Register Study
Acta Oncol. 2024 Apr 9;63:164-168. doi: 10.2340/1651-226X.2024.35238.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND & PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic posed a large challenge for healthcare systems across the world. Comprehensive data on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on incidence and mortality in lymphoma are lacking.PATIENTS/METHODS: Using data from the Swedish lymphoma register, we compare incidence and 1-year survival of lymphoma patients in Sweden before (2017-2019) and during the pandemic (2020 and 2021).RESULTS: Fewer patients were diagnosed with lymphomas during March-June 2020, but the annual incidence rates for 2020 and 2021 were similar...

Socio-demographic inequalities influence differences in the chemical exposome among Swedish adolescents
Environ Int. 2024 Mar 31;186:108618. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108618. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRelatively little is known about the relationship between socio-demographic factors and the chemical exposome in adolescent populations. This knowledge gap hampers global efforts to meet certain UN sustainability goals. The present work addresses this problem in Swedish adolescents by discerning patterns within the chemical exposome and identify demographic groups susceptible to heightened exposures. Enlisting the Riksmaten Adolescents 2016-17 (RMA) study population (N = 1082) in human-biomonitoring, and using proportional...

Transforming health science libraries around the globe: The impact of technology
This article presents an analysis of seven articles published within the International Perspectives and Initiatives regular feature series on the impact of technology on the provision of health information. The articles provide a road map of how technology is facilitating new and enhanced services for library users in seven countries: Australia, Bangladesh, China, England, Germany, Sweden and the United States. Although there are differences in how countries are implementing technological solutions, only one describes problems in leveraging technology to improve library services. Authors from the remaining six countries de...
