Effectiveness and infectious complications of BCMA T ‐cell engagers in treating multiple myeloma: Real‐world evidence from Sweden
ConclusionsDespite the risk of infectious complications, the prognosis of MM patients can be significantly improved with vigilant monitoring and proactive management of infections. This real-world data highlight the potential of BCMA T-cell engagers in treating MM, emphasizing the need for careful patient monitoring to mitigate infection risks. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Continued decline in the incidence of myocardial infarction beyond the COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide study of the Swedish population aged 60 and older during 2015 –2022
This study aims to shed light on the seemingly paradoxical relationship between COVID-19 and myocardial infarction occurrence on the population level by exploring long-term trends in incidence rates, case fatality, and proportion of patients dying before reaching a hospital. Our work is based on a linkage of administrative registers covering the entire population aged 60  + in Sweden. Considering both long-term trends since 2015 and seasonal variability, we compared observed incidence, case fatality, and proportions of patients hospitalized to expected values during 2020–2022. Despite more than 200 laboratory-confirm...

Gender Difference in sidE eFfects of ImmuNotherapy: a possible clue to optimize cancEr tReatment (G-DEFINER): study protocol of an observational prospective multicenter study
Acta Oncol. 2024 Apr 21;63:213-219. doi: 10.2340/1651-226X.2024.24179.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have significantly improved outcomes in various cancers. ICI treatment is associated with the incidence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) which can affect any organ. Data on irAEs occurrence in relation to sex- differentiation and their association with gender-specific factors are limited.AIMS: The primary objective of the G-DEFINER study is to compare the irAEs incidence in female and male patients who undergo ICI treatment. Secondary objectives are: to compare the irAEs incidence in pre- an...

Does losing family members in midlife matter for late-life mental and cognitive health? A longitudinal study of older Swedes spanning 30 years
CONCLUSION: Midlife bereavement might have gendered implications on LLD and cognitive impairment, but associations need to be confirmed by well-powered studies. Further research is warranted to elucidate the association between multiple midlife losses and reduced LLD risk.PMID:38644675 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2341877 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Procedural factors associated with successful recanalization in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with endovascular thrombectomy-a nationwide register-based observational study
CONCLUSION: This study illustrates factors associated with procedural success in endovascular thrombectomy on a nationwide scale including the use of general anesthesia, BGC, annual center volumes >50 cases per year and the overall success rate of the individual operator. It highlights the potential benefit of systematic performance measurements, benchmarking, and continuous training to bring all centers and operators to the highest level of performance.PMID:38646674 | DOI:10.1177/15910199241248268 (Source: Interventional Neuroradiology)

Remote neuropsychological assessment of patients with neurological disorders and injuries--a study protocol for a cross-sectional case-control validation study
This study protocol describes a cross-sectional study aimed at validating the newly developed digitalized neuropsychological test battery Mindmore Remote in patients with neurological disorders and injuries. Diagnoses comprise traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, brain tumour and epilepsy. 50 patients in each patient group will be included. In addition, 50 healthy controls will be recruited. All participants will undergo both testing with Mindmore Remote at home and traditional neuropsychological assessment face-to-face in a randomised order. The primary outcome is the association ...
