Psychosocial Self-efficacy and its Association with Selected Potential Factors Among Adults with Type 1 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Survey Study
ConclusionsIn this study, higher well-being score and lower self-reported HbA1c levels were associated with higher psychosocial self-efficacy in both univariate- and multivariate analysis and accounted for 30% of the variation in psychosocial self-efficacy in the regression model. Thus, measures to improve psychosocial self-efficacy in adults with type 1 diabetes may help maintain their psychological well-being and blood glucose control. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Occupational balance and associated factors among students during higher education within healthcare and social work in Sweden: a multicentre repeated cross-sectional study
Conclusions The association between higher levels of OBQ11 and lower levels of health and well-being is remarkable. There is a need for more research on this contradiction and what it means for students’ health and well-being in the long run. (Source: BMJ Open)

Are there lost opportunities in chronic kidney disease? A region-wide cohort study
Conclusions While we noted underdiagnosis and undertreatment of CKD in this large contemporary population, we also identified a substantial realisable potential to improve CKD outcomes and reduce its burden by treating patients early with guideline-directed pharmacological therapy. Swedish maternity care professionals' perception of labor induction
CONCLUSIONS: Labor inductions might pose challenges to midwives and could bring to light underlying tensions between obstetricians/gynecologists and midwives. Given the modest response rate of the study, we cautiously suggest that while the development of new maternity care guidelines should be grounded in evidence, they should also embrace concerns and insights from a diversity of professional perspectives.PMID:38636350 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.103997 (Source: Midwifery)

Cystatin C as an adjunct to HbA1c may prove useful in predicting the development of diabetic complications in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes
ConclusionIn conclusion, Cystatin C levels were higher in patients with diabetes duration longer than 5 years, and inverse correlation was found between HbA1c and Cystatin C levels as well as duration of diabetes. Cystatin C may prove useful as an adjunct to HbA1c in predicting eventual development of diabetic complications. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

The Promise of a Longer Lifetime
Modern hygiene has been described as the reaction against the old fatalistic creed that deaths inevitably occur at a constant rate. The study of vital statistics shows that there is no “iron law of mortality.” According to a report prepared for the National Conservation Commission fifteen years ago, statistics for India showed that the average duration of life there was less than twenty-five years. In Sweden it was over fifty years; in Massachusetts, forty-five years. The leng th of life is increasing wherever sanitary science and preventive medicine are applied. In India it is stationary. In Europe it doubled in three...
