Has time to chemotherapy from primary debulking surgery in advanced ovarian cancer an impact on survival? - A population-based nationwide SweGCG study
CONCLUSIONS: For the entire cohort, stage IV, non-serous morphology and residual disease, but not TTC, influenced 5-year relative survival. However, longer TTC was associated with a poorer 2-year survival for those without residual disease after PDS.PMID:38603954 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.03.011 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Do beta-blockers reduce negative intrusive thoughts and anxiety in cancer survivors? - An emulated trial
CONCLUSIONS: The emulated trials demonstrated no evidence of a protective effect of beta-blocker therapy against intrusive thoughts. The Active group had reduced quality of life and elevated anxiety compared to the Control group.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The three cohort studies were registered at isrctn.com/clinicaltrials.gov (ISRCTN06393679, NCT02530593 and NCT01477229).PMID:38605350 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-024-12236-3 (Source: Cancer Control)

Alternative routine for reporting chiral amphetamine test results in assessment of attention ‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder medication: experiences from 2013 to 2023
In conclusion, this study demonstrated the clinical value and utility of a new routine for reporting urinary chiral amphetamine results to differentiate adherence to ADHD medication from illicit drug use. Unlike thel/d-amphetamine ratio, it considers differences in total amphetamine concentration and urine dilution, factors that can affect the interpretation. (Source: Drug Testing and Analysis)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1729: Hazel Leaf Polyphenol Extract Alleviated Cisplatin-Induced Acute Kidney Injury by Reducing Ferroptosis through Inhibiting Hippo Signaling
Zhe Lin Yuchen Wang Derived from hazelnuts, hazel leaf has been utilized in traditional folk medicine for centuries in countries such as Portugal, Sweden, and Iran. In our previous investigations, we conducted a preliminary assessment of the hazel leaf polyphenol extract (referred to as ZP) and identified nine compounds, such as kaempferol and chlorogenic acid, in its composition. ZP has shown promising properties as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Our research has revealed that ZP has protective effects against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). We conducted a comprehensive examination of both ...

Successful adaptation of twinning concept for global neurosurgery collaborations —a validation study
ConclusionThis study validated the use of the INTIMA model previously described in a mission by Swedish African Neurosurgical Collaboration (SANC). The model is sustainable and produces notable results. The core strength of the model is in the multidisciplinary team securing all the aspects and steps of the neurosurgical care. Installation of an operating microscope opened for further microsurgical possibilities, improving the neurosurgical care in The Gambia. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Factors related to a positive childbirth experience - a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Although Swedish women tend to express satisfaction with their childbirth experiences, there is a necessity to advocate for a childbirth approach that optimises the chance of giving birth vaginally rather than with vacuum extraction or acute caesarean section, and reduces the risk for complications whenever possible. During pregnancy, mental health problems should be appropriately addressed. Healthcare professionals could also more actively involve the birth companion in the birthing process and equip them with the necessary tools to effectively support birthing women.PMID:38597181 | DOI:10.1080/02646838.2024.2...

Validation of the Appendicitis Inflammatory Response (AIR) score during pregnancy: A nested case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that the AIR score may be a suitable diagnostic tool for risk stratification of pregnant women with abdominal pain and suspected appendicitis but further validation among pregnant women is needed.PMID:38597185 | DOI:10.1111/acem.14915 (Source: Accident and Emergency Nursing)

Time trends and outcomes of gastrostomy placement in a Swedish national cohort over two decades
CONCLUSION: The annual use of gastrostomies in Sweden increased during the study period, with a shift towards more minimally invasive procedures. Although procedure-related death was rare, the overall 30-d mortality rate was high (10%). To overcome this, we believe that patient selection should be improved.PMID:38596497 | PMC:PMC11000080 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i10.1358 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)

COVID-19 mortality among immigrants by duration of residence in Sweden: a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Differential exposure, as opposed to differential susceptibility, likely accounted for the higher COVID-19 mortality observed among those origins who were disproportionately affected by the pandemic in Sweden.PMID:38600446 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241244560 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)
