Occupational balance and associated factors among students during higher education within healthcare and social work in Sweden: a multicentre repeated cross-sectional study
Conclusions The association between higher levels of OBQ11 and lower levels of health and well-being is remarkable. There is a need for more research on this contradiction and what it means for students’ health and well-being in the long run. (Source: BMJ Open)

Are there lost opportunities in chronic kidney disease? A region-wide cohort study
Conclusions While we noted underdiagnosis and undertreatment of CKD in this large contemporary population, we also identified a substantial realisable potential to improve CKD outcomes and reduce its burden by treating patients early with guideline-directed pharmacological therapy. ‘We get to learn as we move’: effects and feasibility of lesson-integrated physical activity in a Swedish primary school

Work-, lifestyle-, and health-related factors among women and men working in the emergency medical services
Conclusions. Exposure to work-related factors that might affect health was common among ambulance personnel. Lifestyle- and health-related factors were somewhat contradictory, with a low proportion reporting lifestyle-related risk factors, but a high proportion having risk factors for CVD.PMID:38632949 | DOI:10.1080/10803548.2024.2332115 (Source: International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics)

Swedish maternity care professionals' perception of labor induction
CONCLUSIONS: Labor inductions might pose challenges to midwives and could bring to light underlying tensions between obstetricians/gynecologists and midwives. Given the modest response rate of the study, we cautiously suggest that while the development of new maternity care guidelines should be grounded in evidence, they should also embrace concerns and insights from a diversity of professional perspectives.PMID:38636350 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.103997 (Source: Midwifery)

Exploring sedentary behavior during neo- or adjuvant treatment in patients with cancer: A phenomenological study
CONCLUSIONS: Sedentary behavior is difficult for patients to discern, which is why health care personnel may need to help patients by increasing awareness of the negative impact of sedentary behavior in a way that does not stigmatize patients. Furthermore, developing support that targets periods with more side effects and helping patients reduce sedentary behavior throughout changing life circumstances may be helpful.PMID:38636117 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102556 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Cystatin C as an adjunct to HbA1c may prove useful in predicting the development of diabetic complications in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes
ConclusionIn conclusion, Cystatin C levels were higher in patients with diabetes duration longer than 5 years, and inverse correlation was found between HbA1c and Cystatin C levels as well as duration of diabetes. Cystatin C may prove useful as an adjunct to HbA1c in predicting eventual development of diabetic complications. (Source: Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders)

The Promise of a Longer Lifetime
Modern hygiene has been described as the reaction against the old fatalistic creed that deaths inevitably occur at a constant rate. The study of vital statistics shows that there is no “iron law of mortality.” According to a report prepared for the National Conservation Commission fifteen years ago, statistics for India showed that the average duration of life there was less than twenty-five years. In Sweden it was over fifty years; in Massachusetts, forty-five years. The leng th of life is increasing wherever sanitary science and preventive medicine are applied. In India it is stationary. In Europe it doubled in three...

The relationship between benevolence and attitudes towards preventive behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden
ConclusionFurther, there was a significant correlation between altruistic motives and compliance with recommendations, including the view on taking the vaccine. Our findings add to the concept that prosocial orientation during the COVID-19 pandemic increases compliance with preventive behaviour. (Source: Journal of Public Health)
