Real-World Effectiveness and Safety of Ramucirumab as a Second-Line Treatment for Patients with Unresectable Advanced or Metastatic Gastric/Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma in Japan and South Korea: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSION: RAM + PTX as a second-line treatment is effective and associated with an acceptable toxicity profile in patients with advanced or metastatic G/GEA in real-world settings of Japan and South Korea. More studies are recommended to further evaluate effectiveness and safety of RAM or RAM-based therapy, especially after anti-PD-1 therapy, in a wider Eastern Asian population.TRIAL REGISTRATION: INPLASY registration number INPLASY2022120023.PMID:38619719 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-024-02838-5 (Source: Adv Data)

Cardiovascular safety of evogliptin dual and triple therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes: a nationwide cohort study
Conclusions These findings suggest that dual or triple therapies of evogliptin for the management of type 2 diabetes in routine clinical practice present no cardiovascular harms, but could alternatively offer cardiovascular benefits in this patient population. (Source: BMJ Open)

Association between Head and Neck Cancer and Increased Risk of Ischemic Heart Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study Using National Population Data
Cancers (Basel). 2024 Mar 29;16(7):1352. doi: 10.3390/cancers16071352.ABSTRACTAlthough cancer and ischemic heart disease (IHD) frequently manifest in the same individual, the risk of IHD events in cancer, especially head and neck cancer (HNC), remains unclear. We aimed to examine the incidence and risk of IHD events in patients with HNC using a population-based cohort dataset in South Korea (2002-2013). Through rigorous propensity score matching, we compared data from 2816 individuals without HNC and 704 individuals with HNC. Key independent variables were matched between groups, and the Charlson Comorbidity Index was used...

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 in South Korea: a comprehensive analysis of cancer and comorbidity risks
ConclusionsDM1 patients have a noteworthy occurrence of several comorbidities such as cancer, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and earlier cataract surgery. This highlights the importance of a comprehensive and integrative approach to the management and treatment of DM1, going beyond addressing only the primary neuromuscular symptoms. More research is required to understand the underlying mechanisms contributing to these comorbidities in DM1 patients, which may inform preventative measures and guide improvements in patient care. Bibliometric analysis of auriculotherapy research trends over the past 20 years
CONCLUSION: Auriculotherapy research primarily focused on clinical studies related to pain, obesity, smoking cessation, and depression. Future research should place greater emphasis on verifying the mechanisms of auriculotherapy for specific ailments and may require efforts to enhance the robustness of clinical trials. Through visual analysis, our study may serve as a foundational resource, offering valuable insights into the trajectory of auriculotherapy research.PMID:38608787 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2024.103036 (Source: Complementary Therapies in Medicine)

Impact of statutory revisions to family-petitioned civil commitment in South Korea
CONCLUSION: The findings were based on cross-sectional correlational data and should not be viewed as conclusive evidence that the 2016 statutory revision is ineffective in preventing family-petitioned civil commitment in cases where dangerousness is not apparent. Nevertheless, these findings encourage further empirical studies that illuminate the etiology of procedural justice in civil commitments petitioned by family members and that assess factors and contexts that promote the consideration of least coercive treatments, rather than resorting to involuntary hospitalization when psychiatric emergencies arise.PMID:38603975...
