Increased Risk of Bullous Pemphigoid after First-Ever Stroke: A Population-Based Study
Background: We hypothesize that autoantibodies are induced after the blood-brain barrier is damaged by stroke and the risk of bullous pemphigoid (BP) is increased after stroke. We assess the risk of BP after first-ever stroke in a nationwide population-based cohort of first-ever stroke patients.Methods: We extracted data from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005 and identified patients with first-ever stroke as well as control patients matched for age, gender, and year of enrollment. Return to work predictors of stroke survivors and their spousal caregivers.
CONCLUSIONS: Further research is needed regarding the return to work needs of stroke survivors and their spousal caregivers, particularly what role the occupational therapist may play in facilitating that process.

Increased stroke risk among patients with open-angle glaucoma: a 10-year follow-up cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients who were diagnosed with OAG were more likely to experience subsequent stroke than comparison group without OAG, and the risk was greater for older adults and males.

Hospital Discharge Disposition of Stroke Patients in Tennessee.
CONCLUSIONS: Our investigation revealed that the hospital discharge disposition pattern of patients with stroke in Tennessee was associated with the key patient characteristics of selected demographics, clinical indicators, and insurance status. These analyses resulted in the development of an easy-to-use predictive tool for early determination of hospital discharge disposition status.

Influenza vaccination might reduce the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation: A population-based cohort study.
Conclusions: Influenza vaccination might exert a dose-response effect against ischemic stroke in patients with AF who have risk factors for ischemic stroke by reducing the incidence of ischemic stroke, particularly in those aged 65-74 and ≥75 y.

Dental treatment procedures for periodontal disease and the subsequent risk of ischemic stroke: a retrospective population-based cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that periodontitis is a risk factor of ischemic stroke. Both dental scaling and intensive treatment for periodontal disease are associated with a lower risk of further ischemic stroke events. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Acupuncture treatment and the risk of urinary tract infection in stroke patients: a nationwide matched cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: In this nationwide retrospective cohort study, we raised the possibility that acupuncture treatment may be associated with a reduced risk of UTI among stroke patients. However, the protective effect associated with acupuncture treatment requires further validation using randomized clinical trials.

Cardiovascular outcomes of vildagliptin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus after acute coronary syndrome or acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsAmong patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus after a recent acute coronary syndrome or acute ischemic stroke, treatment with vildagliptin was not associated with increased risks of CV death, non‐fatal myocardial infarction, non‐fatal stroke and hospitalization for HF.

IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 3491: The Relationship between Scabies and Stroke: A Population-Based Nationwide Study
Conclusions: The results of the study indicated an elevated risk of stroke among scabies patients, an association that might be contributed to by immunopathological factors. This information could serve as a reminder to clinicians to remain alert to any indications of neurological impairment in patients previously infected with scabies.

Tea consumption and risk of stroke in Chinese adults: a prospective cohort study of 0.5 million men and women.

Predicting the Risk of Ischemic Stroke among Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Using a Simplified RA-CHADSV Score Based on the CHA2DS2-VASc Score.
CONCLUSIONS: A simplified RA-CHADSV score, with comparable efficiency as the CHA2DS2-VASc score, but easier to use clinically was developed for predicting the risk of ischemic stroke among non-AF RA patients.
