HbA1c predicts long ‐term postoperative mortality in patients with unknown glycemic status at admission for vascular surgery: An exploratory study
ConclusionsThe results indicate that HbA1c is a useful marker in the preoperative screening of patients of unknown glycemic status at the time of admission for vascular surgery, and may identify people at high risk of long ‐term mortality following surgical treatment for PAD. Comparative efficacy of nine different dressings in healing diabetic foot ulcer: A Bayesian network analysis
ConclusionsThe nine dressings evaluated in this study had different advantages in promoting the healing of DFU, but most differences among the dressings were not significant. According to the analysis of rank probability, amniotic membrane and hydrogel dressings are the most advantageous in terms of promoting DFU healing. It is recommended that the most suitable dressing should be selected taking into consideration exudate control, comfort, and cost. (Source: Journal of Diabetes)

Association of common type 1 and type 2 diabetes gene variants (PTPN22, INS, and TCF7L2) with Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA): a meta ‐analysis
ObjectiveThe meta ‐analysis was aimed to determine the association of common type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) gene variants (PTPN22 rs2476601C/T, INS rs689A/T andTCF7L2 rs7903146C/T) with Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA).MethodA systematic search of electronic databases was carried out to pool data from 16 independent case ‐control studies for three gene variants until 2017. The pooled allele and genotype frequencies for each T1D and T2D gene variants were used to calculate odds ratio with 95% confidence interval to assess the strength of the association. Heterogeneity test and evaluation of p...

Endoscopic Bariatric and Metabolic Therapies: Another Tool for the Management of Diabetes and Obesity
Endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies (EBMTs) have sparked significant interest as minimally invasive therapeutic options for weight loss. Although bariatric surgery remains an effective option for sustained weight loss and improvement in the metabolic syndrome, access and utilization are limited. Various EBMTs have been designed to emulate the physiologic effects of established surgical interventions, including space ‐occupying and non‐space occupying gastric therapies, gastric remodeling procedures, and small bowel therapies. This review will discuss the safety and efficacy of available FDA approved minimally ...

Sweet fish: Fish models for the study of hyperglycemia and diabetes
AbstractFish are good for your health in more ways than you may expect. For one, eating fish is a common dietary recommendation for a healthy diet. However, fish have much more to provide than omega ‐3 fatty acids to your circulatory system. Some fish species now serve as important and innovative model systems for diabetes research, providing novel and unique advantages compared with classical research models. Not surprisingly, the largest share of diabetes research in fish occurs in the labo ratory workhorse among fish, the zebrafish (Danio rerio). Established as a genetic model system to study development, these small ...

Effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine Jinlida Granules as an Add ‐on Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes: A System Review and Meta‐analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
BackgroundJinlida granules is the commonly ‐prescribed oral medication to lower blood‐ glucose combination with anti‐diabetic drugs in China. We aimed to systematically identify and pool the findings of randomized controlled trials for evaluating effectiveness and safety of Jinlida as an add‐on therapy for glycaemic control in T2DM.MethodsThe CNKI; Wang Fang; PUBMED; CBM and VIP databases were searched for papers regarding the effects of Jinlida granules for T2DM published before 1 July 2018. Data were independently extracted by two authors. A pooled analysis of data was performed using random ‐effects models.Res...

Ethnic disparities in relationships of obesity indices with telomere length in Asians with type 2 diabetes
This study examined the association of baseline and changes in obesity indices with telomere length in multiethnic Asian populations with T2D.MethodsLeukocyte telomere length (LTL) was measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction in the SMART2D cohort (n  = 1431 at baseline, n = 1039 after 3.2 years median follow‐up). Associations between obesity indices and LTL were assessed by linear regression.ResultsCompared with Chinese, LTL was longer in Malays (P

Shortage of energy intake rather than protein intake is associated with sarcopenia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes: A cross ‐sectional study of the KAMOGAWA‐DM cohort
PurposeEnergy intake is important to maintain muscle mass. The relationship between energy intake and sarcopenia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes has been unclear.MethodsWe used a brief ‐type self‐administered diet‐history questionnaire for the assessment of the habitual food and nutrient intake of patients with type 2 diabetes aged ≥65 years all of whom were Japanese and without physical inactivity who participated in the KAMOGAWA‐DM cohort study. The patients' body comp osition was evaluated by a bioimpedance analysis. Sarcopenia was defined as having both a grip strength of
