Predicting the Risk of Ischemic Stroke among Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Using a Simplified RA-CHADSV Score Based on the CHA2DS2-VASc Score. Medicina (Kaunas). 2020 Feb 12;56(2): Authors: Hsu CW, Ng KJ, Lu MC, Koo M Abstract BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to develop a new score (RA-CHADSV) (rheumatoid arthritis - congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, diabetes mellitus, stroke/transient ischemic attack/thromboembolism, and vascular disease), modified from the CHA2DS2-VASc score (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years (doubled), diabetes mellitus, stroke/transient ischemic attack (doubled), vascular disease, age 65-74 years, and female), in predicting the risk of ischemic stroke in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients without atrial fibrillation (AF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using the Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database, 592 patients with RA diagnosed between 2000 and 2002 were identified and followed until first occurrence of ischemic stroke or the last available date in the database. Incidence rate ratios (IRR) of ischemic stroke for the CHA2DS2-VASc score were calculated using Poisson regression models. A new prediction score RA-CHADSV was developed using multiple logistic regression analysis with bootstrap validation. RESULTS: The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the newly developed RA-CHADSV score and the CHA2DS2-VAS...

AbstractTo evaluate the efficacy of selective retina therapy (SRT) in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) based on pretreatment central foveal thickness (CFT). Seventy-two eyes of 63 patients with DME who had previously undergone SRT were included. Patients were divided into two groups based on the CFT at baseline. Group 1 was composed of 35 eyes with CFT

Authors: Furaz Czerpak K, Gruss Vergara E, Barril Cuadrado G, Pérez Fernández E, Benavides N, de la Flor J, Mendez Á, Martín R Abstract INTRODUCTION: Hypertension is very common in haemodialysis (HD) patients, and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality rates. The goals of our research were to: 1. Measure blood pressure (BP) during HD sessions; 2. Study BP in between HD sessions with 44-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM); 3. Identify differences between the BP recorded during HD and with the ABPM; 4. Evaluate changes in treatment after the ABPM; 5. Perform bioi...

Abstract A 67-year-old male diabetic patient with systemic arterial hypertension was admitted to the emergency department with a necrotic ulcer in the left external malleolus and no palpable popliteal or pedal pulses. Arterial Duplex ultrasound identified femoropopliteal occlusion, with popliteal refilling below the knee and a patent peroneal artery. An endovascular procedure was performed, requiring retrograde access to the popliteal artery to re-establish blood flow and deploy a popliteal stent. Technical success was achieved and the patient underwent debridement of the wound. Two days later, about 48 hours after the ope...

Abstract Objective: To analyze the association between adherence to antihypertensive treatment and frailty syndrome in hypertensive older adults. Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach with older adults. The data collection took place between November 2017 and March 2018, evaluating sociodemographic information, adherence to antihypertensive treatment, lifestyle and frailty through the Edmonton Frail Scale. The Kruskal-Wallis test and the Chi-squared test were used for data analysis, considering a 95% confidence interval and a significance level of p
