Assessment of the manifestations of atrial fibrillation in patients with acute cerebral stroke - a single-center study based on 998 patients.
Discussion: The above data should prompt neurologists, cardiologists and family doctors to try to detect AF as a risk factor for ischemic stroke which worsens patient prognosis, prolongs hospital stay and contributes to increase in mortality, especially when more effective drug treatment is currently possible. Meta-Analysis of Perioperative Stroke and Mortality in CABG Patients With Carotid Stenosis
Conclusions: Together, these data suggest an association between stroke and mortality in the perioperative period in patients undergoing CABG, demonstrating a need for improved monitoring, screening, and treatment of stroke before, during, and shortly after surgery.

Risk for ischemic stroke and coronary heart disease associated with migraine and migraine medication among older adults
ConclusionsOlder adults with migraine are at increased risk for ischemic stroke. The risk for ischemic stroke among older adults with migraine may differ by migraine medication classes.

Association between the Suita Score and Stroke Recurrence in Patients with First-ever Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusion The Suita score, adapted for use in ischemic stroke with the same mechanism, correlated with the short-term recurrence within one year. Our findings suggest that the Suita score may be useful for predicting the long-term prognosis of developing CHD as well as the short-term recurrence for patients with first-ever AIS and TIA.PMID:35296620 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.7905-21

Polymorphisms of TRIB1 Genes for Coronary Artery Disease and Stroke Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The rs2954029 A allele was significantly associated with an increased risk of CAD and stroke, according to the present meta-analysis. However, the association of rs17321515 polymorphism with susceptibility to CAD and stroke has not been found in this study.PMID:37414350 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147613

The β-fibrinogen -455G/A gene polymorphism and the risk of ischaemic stroke in a Polish population.
Conclusions: The β-fibrinogen -455G/A gene polymorphism is not a risk factor for ischaemic stroke in a Polish population. PMID: 23650004 [PubMed - in process]

Assessment of Stroke and Concomitant Cerebrovascular Disease with Heart Disease Requires Invasive Treatment: Analysis of 249 Consecutive Patients with Heart Disease.
Conclusion The risk of perioperative stroke was very low in combined cardiac disease and the CVD. However, for preventing ischemic stroke due to the predetected cerebrovascular lesions, precautionary efforts could be needed for patients undergoing an invasive cardiac procedure, and concomitant cerebrovascular lesions should be considered as main source of delayed ischemic stroke. The Impact of Heart Failure and Left Ventricular Dysfunction in Predicting Stroke, Thromboembolism, and Mortality in Atrial Fibrillation Patients: A Systematic Review.
Abstract PURPOSE: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is commonly associated with structural heart disease. Although heart failure (HF) has been proposed as a risk factor for stroke, the coexistence of the 2 diseases increases disproportionally the risk of thromboembolic events. Our objective was to conduct a systematic review to assess the effect of HF on the end points of stroke, systemic embolism (SE), or mortality in patients with AF. METHODS: A literature search was performed to identify studies that examined stroke/ SE in relation to AF and HF. Overall, 405 articles satisfied the preinclusion criteria. FINDIN...

Factors associated with early hospital arrival in acute ischemic stroke patients
Abstract Early diagnosis and treatment in acute ischemic stroke are crucial in terms of survival and disability. Many stroke patients remain disabled because of the treatment delay. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors associated with the early hospital arrival in acute ischemic stroke patients. 113 patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke were included in this prospective study performed at the Karadeniz Technical University Medical Faculty Hospital. Patients’ characteristics and patients’ and relatives’ emotional and behavioral reactions were compared between early (within 3 ...

Peripheral Arterial Disease and Risk of Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions PAD is associated with an increased risk of AF and stroke in MESA. Potentially, the relationship between PAD and stroke is not mediated by AF.
